We are going to get a heat pump installed soon.
Just wondering for those that do have one if you also have a fireplace and do you find that you use it less? And for those that don't have a fireplace do you find that your house is warm enough? We have a fireplace that we will be relocating but I'm wondering if we were to pull it out and not re-install it straight away would we be warm enough in the mean time. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We have a heat pump and no other form of heating now and we love it. It heats the whole place up really quickly 10min for just the open plan living spaces and a bit longer if we leave the door open to the hall and bedrooms and yes we are warm and toasty .
I love that it is multi functional and can dehumidify (sp) as well and in summer we can used it like air conditioning to cool the house down. And the cleaning is soooo much easier (I'm too lazy to do a fire place now  )

I would not bother with the fireplace once you get the heat pump - ours heats our whole house perfectly and we don't use any other sort of heating at all! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We still have the fire occasionally, just cause. The heat pump stays on 18 degrees during the day then around 5pm I turn it up to around 22. Overnight it goes back down to 18. ------------- Mr Mellow (16) Miss Attitude (8) Destructa Kid (3)

We have a heatpump in our hallway so its more for the bedrooms than the main living area, in the main living area we have a logburner. But we only use the logburner when its really cold, the heatpump does a good job of keeping the whole house warm most of the time except for on the coldest winter nights.
So I guess it depends where you are going to put the heatpump too. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Sorry to thread-jack, but how is your power bill with having the heatpump on all the time? I know it takes a lot more power to heat the house up when you turn it on orignially so turning it on and off all the time is expensive. Just to contribute to the original question  , we took our fireplace out last winter when the heatpump went in and sold it on TM, the heat pump is more than enough heating although we have a smallish 3 brm------------- Lindsey

At first I was so for getting a fireplace and Dh a heatpump but we went for a heatpump and yes I think they are great so easy to use and heat the house great plus I really like the timer function we set it before we go to bed at night for the next morning. -------------

The installer advised us not to turn it on and off, just to turn the temperature down and have the fan on low during the night. Haven't had a power bill yet  ------------- Mr Mellow (16) Miss Attitude (8) Destructa Kid (3)
