DH and I watch homesick now all the time. Watching it just adds to my growing wish list for our house.
Whats on your wish list of things you would love/need to do to your home? And do you think you will ever get them done?
I'm kinda hoping by writing it down it will make me do more of them (probably wishful thinking lol)
- finish pink batts in the ceiling (we have done half the house almost so far)
- get a new heating system thats not on gas so we can ditch the gas
- paint bedroom #3, kitchen and living room
- new hot water cylinder
- new hrv (we have the first ever model of this type of thing and its useless)
- loads of plants cause I've gone and ripped out all the ugly stuff
- paint the garage
- expol insulation
- new vanity cabinet in the bathroom
- new front door

my wish list is that 'homesick' programme was around 12mths ago!!!
the only heating we had in our house was a gas heater and had no insulation and no closed in foundation around the bottom of our house (relocated)
because of charli's health problems we were eligible for a subsidised heatpump and insulation in roof and underfloor.....costing us $2000 all up
now don't get me wrong, i'm SOOOOOOO grateful that we got that and it's made a big difference, but when i watch homesick, i'm so jealous of all the extra stuff they do for these people.
we would've definately applied for the show, our house was the same as last nights one...no ventilation in kitchen or bathroom, mould in nearly all the rooms except the lounge, very cold and damp. we did have an abestos roof but that had to be removed when we shifted the house
i'd love
bathroom ventilation/fan heater thingee
extracter fan in kitchen
HRV (mmmmmmmmmm)
thermal drapes throughout house
heatpump in hallway to heat the bedrooms
of course, a driveway would be nice and a front of house that doesn't resemble a dump station

my wish list is long and never going to get finished if prices for EVERYTHING keep going up!
but here goes anyway
Finish pink bats over lounge
Knock out kitchen/smallest bedroom wall
Get a stove fire to heat house more economically
Finish planting all my gardens
Fix roof over shower so it doesnt leak everytime it rains
Skylight in kitchen
finish painting lounge
start painting kitchen
paint bathroom any light colour (not the dark blue it is now)
hmmmmm, what i would give to have more money! and time, and creative talents!

We renovated before we moved in so there isn't heaps to do, but I'd like to think we will get around to it all one day if we end up being here for as long as we think we will..
Finish landscaping.
External painting.
A couple of skylights would be awesome.
Make additional concreted parking areas.
Re-wallpaper/paint various internal rooms.

DH is putting Expol in as we speak. At $50 a bundle we're putting it in as we can afford it.
I'd like to get the spouting fixed.
Replace the rotten roller blinds in the kitchen
Get a heat/fan/light unit for the shower
Someone to come and make over our garden would be nice, we've got a nice big section but no idea what to do with it.
oh and put our lovely big deck on, with bi-fold doors off the living areas.
Dreams are free right!

Funny that I get home and find this thread - was having a discussion with DH in car on the commute and had come to the conclusion we need to write down our wish list... but oh, where do I start!! (I also watch Homesick every week and it has grown this list quite a bit of late)... not any any definite priority order though:
*Insulation (the pump in foam kind most likely and expol underfloor)
*Extractor fan/heat light in bathroom
*New vanity and general pretty up of bathroom
*Installation of a pellet fire
*Completion of painting/redocration throughout house (have done small spare room, started on hallway, other bedrooms and living area to follow)
*Proper drainage on down-pipes and guttering (currently drains onto lawn and no doubt under house, eek!)
*New flooring in Kitchen, bathroom and laundry (got tears in vinyl at the mo')
*Rangehood or somekind of extraction system in kitchen
*Knock down internal wall to incorporate backdoor into laundry area and create more storage space
*Overhaul or replacement of kitchen cabinets
*Renew decking on front porch
*New boundary fences around property
Phew... I think that's it! Guess we really need to win lotto

Um I'd like my dining room finshed wallpapering that is, it nearly done but...
Deck out the back so we can use our french doors properly.
Landscape the back of the garden
Re-wallpaper the hallway
Oh and get our bathroom finally done its all sitting there in the garage but no time to get it finshed or even started lol
I would also so love a new kitchen
One day we will get it all done theres plenty of time...

Ok here goes :
Put in the new windows sitting in our garage.
Replace the 3 entry doors.
Paint window frames.
Re-plaster and paint the whole exterior.
Paint roof.
Replace backyard fences and fence the frontyard.
Re-lay concrete driveway and garage floor.
Line the garage walls.
Connect the new spouting downpipes to the drains so they dont just go on the lawn like they do now.
Relay drainage pipes so they are underground properly.
Landscaping- so lawn is level and plant some fruit trees and other plants.
Build raised vege garden and plant it.
Re-jib the lounge ceilings.
Repair earthquake damage to ceilings.
Paint all the internal walls of every room and the ceilings.
Replace all door handles.
Paint all doors.
Rewire the whole electrics.
Move the power metre box to outside so we no longer need the meter reader to come inside the house!
Remove hotwater cylinder and install gas for hot water heating.
Bathroom- re line walls. Replace vanity unit.
Replace flooring in bathroom, toilet and kitchen.
Replace carpet.
New kitchen including a dishwasher,..woo hoo!
Replace floorboards in laundry.
Replace all the plumbing.
I think thats about it!

Now that's an impressive list Kellz!!!
I'm hoping that we can get a bale of pink batts every 2-3 weeks. So that job should be done in the next couple of months.
I'm also hoping that I'll find the money somewhere to pay for paint for the kitchen/dining room over the next couple of weeks.
Fleur - how far does a bundle of expol go?

Its not impressive,..its down right scary! The worst thing is we have another house that needs nearly as much doing too! We plan to eventually sell them both and buy a nice house that doesnt need ANY work!
We have already re-roofed above the 3 enterance -ways, painted the fachia boards and got new spouting. This weekend I started painting what will be Isla's room,..and today I put the first coat of PINK paint on one wall! Woo hoo!

Hmmm
Outside:
*finish landscaping (almost finished)
*extend deck
*repaint fence
*extend deck
Inside:
*Replace carpet throughout
*Replace curtains throughout
*New kitchen cupboards, new tiled backsplash, replace rangehood.
*Replace laundry tub and tile (purchased) floor
*Refit bathroom - Rip out shower, bath and vanity and replace with new vanity and combined shower bath (a HUGE bath with shower head at each end) , new glass shower curtain, tile (purchased) floor, new mirror, repaint (purchased) and new extractor fan.
*Replace toilet and tile (purchased) floor
*Central heating (heatpump/dvs)
In my world we also lift the house 1 metre and build a rumpus, laundry and 4th bedroom downstairs... but I know that is just a dream. If we did this I would knock the wall out between the laundry and kitchen and completely refit the Kitchen. Would also extend the house out about 2 metres and have the deck wrap around to meet it. Its all in my head.

Hmmm - well we are about to start building our house so will basically be getting everything we want But the things we will need to do (that isn't included in the package) are carpet (DH is a carpet layer), fences, drapes and planting gardens (they are laying grass). Oh and we will put in a heatpump sometime after we move in but before next winter

Not very far, its taken 2 and 1/2 for our bedroom alone.
DH tells me its not as easy to put up as they make it on tele.
Will probably take 3 or 4 for the living areas.

Sucky that they aren't that easy to install. It sounds like they are about the same price as pink batts for how far they go.

Um how do you say EVERYTHING!! By the time we've finished renovating our house will be unrecognisable.
New ranch slider in bedroom
ventilation in bathroom
New downstairs bathroom
Put in ensuite and walk in wardrobe
New kitchen
Move upstairs toilet and bedroom around
Get a new door on our bedroom
Re-gib entire inside of house
New lighting through-out house
Carpet downstairs
Polish floors upstairs
Move fireplace in our bedroom
Heat pump
Security bars etc to be installed
Get a longer beam in the lounge and have it lifted into the ceiling
Remove the bump in the lounge floor
Fill the gap in the lounge floor
DH has just this very second sent me an email about doors. That's great because half the rooms in our house don't have any!!
There's more, so much more. It's like making cheese, good things take time.
Oh and the most important thing is to get my wine rack built!!

I've copied and pasted part of your list Kellz...just amended some relevant bits
Raise the house approx. 1/2 metre so that you can actually get under it and air will circulate
Rip down all the current wall linings and put gib up.
Replace the current ceilings with gib (currently textured plasterboard)
Put in the sliding door between conservatory and master bedroom.
Change the hallway to a wardrobe for the master bedroom, and a linen closet and another cupboard
Take out the front door and make it a wall to extend the conservatory
Take out corner wardrobes in both bedrooms
Paint all the internal walls of every room and the ceilings after the gib has been done.
Rewire the house.
Move the power metre box to outside so we no longer need the meter reader to come inside the house!
Remove hotwater cylinder and install gas cylinders for hot water heating.
Put up a wall to separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom.
Extend new bathroom into where current kitchen is and put in the new shub/shower and vanity
Replace carpet and put in new carpet in the rooms which currently have grotty polished floors.
Change existing laundry into the kitchen, including a dishwasher
Change the end of the kitchen into the laundry
Replace all the plumbing (we don't have any hot water to parts of the house at the moment because the galvanised pipes are rusting from the inside out).
Put insulation in all the walls and fix the stuff in the ceiling
If we raise the house, put in underfloor insulation
Knock down the wall between the dining room and lounge, and take out the fireplace and coal range
Put in an HRV system and heat pump
Reroof (and remove the pohutukawa which is currently growing out of the chimney)
Fix the flashing on the side of the house which has been pulled out by the telephone wire to the pole
Paint the exterior of the house
Level the back yard (currently sloping and a mess)
Put in new retaining walls
Remove existing garage and put in a weatherproof one that isn't growing trees, and put in a concrete floor and driveway
Ummmm, I don't want to think about what else
We need to get rid of all the wild ginger growing around the boundary, which is a noxious weed and slightly illegal We're starting on the work after the wedding.
ETA: OMG it's HUGE!!!

The thing that scares me about that Homesick program is how much money the spend for what they get.
Oh and Palmy ladies anyone know where last weeks house was?

DH figured out where it was but I don't remember. It was over near fitzroy street area.
Yeah they do spend a lot of money on that program.. but I do think they do some unnecessary things like painting the outside of the house etc that didn't really need to be done at all and some of the landscaping things. If they got rid of that kind of thing it would be cheaper.

I read everyone else's lists and keep wanting to add more to mine as I'm reminded of stuff
As much as I'm kinda excited about doing the renovations and we could only afford a house that needed them done, it's a bit daunting all the same!

For those of you wanting a ventilation system they are worth it.
This is our second winter with DVS and our house is a lot drier and warmer than a lot of other houses we've been in.
We got 2 free panel heaters with it thru the Akl home show. Keeps our room dry and they're safe for little fingers.

Well we've already done heaps to this house, but still heaps more to do including:
New logburner and underfloor insulation (which we are getting for free through the council's scheme yay)
Finish off painting interiors in general
new curtains and blinds for dining room and our bedroom
sand and wax/oil/polyurethane all indoor window frames and wooden pannelling
new guttering
repaint exterior
create deck
major garden landscaping of the whole section
get the driveway concreted or paved or ashphalted
Plus we need new lounge and dining suites (which is not really renovations but hey)
