Okay so i need to at some point start organizing Briahnas first birthday. Ive decided on a theme, cake etc. BUT the thing is, i dont know where to start!

Im sh*t with organising as i am the least organised person ever!! Anyone have any tips on where to start?

Also with the cake, do i make it the day before and ice it on the day? or do i prepare it on the day? And anyone know any websites to help me make it? (im making a ladybug cake)

I really want to make the invites as well, it will give me something to do in my spare time (which i have alot of!). But i dont know where to start there either!!

GAH! Kids! Lol!

So yeah? HELP?

We have got Ellas birthday this weekend. Found it wasn't that bad organising it- we are having it at our place and have around 15 adults and 8 kids coming. We are making the cake and icing it the day before as we figured that we won't have time to do it on the day (party starts at 11). In terms of decorating I bought a bunch of balloons from the $2 shop near us and we are just going to hang them around the living room. We belong to a toy library so have got a ride on car and a kids rollarcoaster (if the weather is OK) for the kids to play with.

For the invites I got some at wholesale from work, but if you were going to make them I would just buy some coloured card from your local stationery shop and go from there. Maybe gets some kids stickers to go it?

and lastly just make sure you have fun organising it...it is after all suppose to be a party and be fun

Look up a cute ladybug pic online and print off some paper invites with the ladybug on it - make them A5 size (half of an A4), I dunno how to say it but that size is just "friendly". Maybe you could paint them if that's something you like to do - with all your spare time.

For the first birthday, all I can really say is to not stress. The littlies have no idea what is going on except that they can get overwhelmed with all the other people there. They do like cake and marshmallows, I have found!

You will need to make the cake either early that morning or the day before, so it has plenty of time to cool before icing it.

Balloons are always fun and probably all you'll need (aside from food) for a 1yo party especially in winter.

Have been googling

http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=43917 - Easy directions for Ladybird cake
http://www.littlies.co.nz/page.asp?id=766&level=3 - Ladybird theme party ideas

Why NZers call them ladybirds I have no idea. I call them ladybugs so my kids won't get confused - they are nothing like birds!!

I would say starting point is guest list.

Pick a date and time that suits.

Make invites - if its a ladybird theme - red card cut out with black dot stickers or something.

Send invites out 2-3 weeks before date.

Work out food - sausage rolls etc - things that are easy for you on the day.

2 days before - do party shop for food.

Day before - decorate cake - australian womens weekly party cake book has a cute ladybird cake - loan from library.

On the day - get food organised, decorate, dress child and relax!

Yah Have un...and the girls have given you cool idea...use them.

You still have like 3 months, dont live it too late and stress later. Start getting things organised a bit a time. And its easy on the pocket too....

At the end just have fun

All I did was work out how many people were coming and therefore how much food would be needed and then thought that our house was too small so changed it to my mummas house.

Printed out a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like. Made it 2 days before, iced it the day before (so it wasn't at all warm which made decorating much easier).

Made the salads and stuff the night before. Shoved a bunch of food in the oven on the day and had fun.
