I *think* I have a virus on my computer. How do I find out if I do have one on my computer and how do I get rid of it???

What you been looking at?

do you have something like norton or mcafree
antivirus on your computer? If not I think you can download it (not sure if they still do the 30 days free trial or not???)

EEEKK, good luck!

DH is acomputer geek, he says get a virus checker such as 'AVG free' google search and download. do a full scan after you install it, if it detects something then you have something and if that is the case it should be able to remove it, if it cant, google whatever it is that it says it has found and follow it from there. hope that helps. ill try keep a tab on this thread in case you get stuck

might want to check if there are any updates outstanding for your norton. if its a new virus and you have not updated recently it might not pick it up.

Becks.  DH accidentally downloaded a trojan this week called Antivirus 2008.  Once I found where it was located I turned off my computer, restarted in safe mode then deleted the file and emptied the recycle bin so it was gone completely before restarting the computer as normal again.

being an ex it manager I'd do the following:

download the stinger tool from mcafee which runs independently from any virus software which may have been taken over from the virus.
