This is the first time I have had a problem when selling so not sure what to do. We bought a new bedroom suite so had our old bed listed. It sold yesterday (to someone with 0 feedbacks) and I emailed her asking when she wanted to pick it up as its sitting in our hallway and we have Ashleigh's party tomorrow so wanted it gone by then. She has emailed back saying sorry, but she has bid and won another bed because it had a mattress and ours didn't so can I please sell it to someone else. GRRRR Its mainly the fact that I wanted it gone by tomorrow. So anyway there were 24 watchers so I have offered it to them but do I leave bad feedback for this other woman? She was actually polite and apologetic in her email and said she is new here so she probably doesn't understand the rules but still... I have sent back a very "to the point" email saying I'm not happy.

At the very least she should've told you ASAP, not waited to reply to your email.

What a pain!! I would blue face too and explain in the feedback exactly what happened. Regardless of whether she's new or how apologetic she was, she had to have known she was leaving you in a lurch and chose not to tell you until you contacted her.

You guys are nice. I would leave a red face as it says in trade mes terms that if you place a bid its a legally binding contract or something.

Grrr that would peeve me off aswell!! I would leave a blue face and say you are not happy with how the auction went.
Even if she is new...its common sense really, if you bid on something and you win it, you blimmin buy it!!

How annoying. You wouldn't buy a bed from one 2nd hand retail store then wander down the road and buy another from a different 2nd hand store and try to return the first, why would she think that online trading is any different.
Leave her a red face and explain what happened in the comments box.

I have to agree on the red face too. When she signed up to TM, she should have read the terms and conditions. She has to learn the hard way.

Ask yourself this - what has she done to deserve good feedback? It's common sense that you don't commit to buying something in an auction if you don't wish to carry through on it. She knew there was no matress and bit anyway. Apologetic or no, she deserves the big red Plus, other buyers and sellers use your fedback to help gauge whether they will trust a buyer/seller and possibly help someone else avoid the situation you're in.
Make sure you get your success fee back from TM too!

I reckon a red face as well, you had a contract with her and whether she is new to trademe or not doesn't matter in my opinion you still should be aware of the rules before you start bidding.

Yes! I was thinking that too - otherwise the no-sale will actually cost you.
I'd probably leave a blue face though as I'm a softie

I would have left a red face even if she is new to TM she should have understand the rules in the first place before bidding on something.

I would leave negative feedback, being new isn't an excuse for screwing someone over.
Plus if you let trademe know that she backed out of the sale they will refund your success fee.

I would go for the red face! You sign up to something it is your responsibility to know the terms and conditions!

that is annoying and it's happened to me before so i know how you feel. I didnt have many watches so i had to get my success fee back and relist the item. It's a waste of time and very annoying.

If you get your success fee refunded, won't the feedback vanish anyway? turn into another symbol.

Thanks guys - I ended up doing a blue face as I offered it to watchers and someone else has bought it (although not picked up as yet). Only $1 less than the silly woman won it for too. I will ask for a refund of my success fee but you have to wait for 3 days after the auction has closed

No you can still place feedback, I have had to do it a couple of times when people have won my auctions and then disappeared off the face of the planet. And yep rules say they get three days to contact you, I have always given people a week/3 e-mails, as I believe that is more than adequate.
You can also change negative feedback if they contact you with what you believe to be a genuine reason for not being in touch.
edited to add that if you get the success fee refunded trademe do add a symbol and comment to say that the transaction didn't occur but its additional to the feedback not instead of it.

You don't have to wait 3 days as you've 'mutually agreed' about it all. It's recommended that you wait 3 days if I recall, but seeing as you have gone through it all already that's fine.
But anyway, you'll have to pay the success fee seeing as you offered it.
I don't hesitate in putting negative feedback if someone di*ks me around - they agree to the rules when they sign up. You do run the risk however of them placing negative feedback on you.
