Morning everyone
Thomas has taken to liking Weetbix in the morning for breakfast, i just gave him one crushed with milk but it seemed to me like he wanted more, how many would you feed your baby? I would have thought one was enough but he was still smacking his lips! He sleeps for 13 hours overnight so obviously is pretty hungry in the morning when he wakes. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Not sure about weetbix but to give you an idea..Blake has two pieces of toast and a bowl of rice bubbles ..has done since about 10 months....Its the one meal of the day I can guarantee he will scoff so stick with it and shovel it in... -------------

thanks kelpa im a big believer in a big breakfast, start the day off right etc, i usually give him toast as well but might try 2 weetbix instead. he likes rice bubbles too but not corn flakes... he doesnt eat a whole lot the rest of the day ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yea..breakfast important ah!I def need mine :)
I used to make up big bowls and of banana and custard or semolina with fruit and Blake would scoff it all at lunchtime and huge bowls of mashed veges and mince/chicken .....think why he has always been good weight putter on til about 3 months ago......so now when he is fussy coming up two year old he is not vanishing away to a shadow as he still enjoys huge brekkie and lunch :) Thank GOD! -------------

Check with plunket (or something similar that you trust) as weetbix is quite hard on the digestive system. There's some natural health belief that they shouldn't have it till they're 2 as they're digestive system simply can't handle it. However, I feed my kids a weetbix in the morning since they were 1 and they seem fine. Wow, that's a hearty breakfast Sara! My eldest 2 only have wheetbix, Rico has 2, Gia struggles to get one down. I give Jett 1.5 wheetbix. I'm sure he'd eat more, but that does him for now. I then give him some bits of toast.

Ella has either 1.5 weetbix with milk and yoghurt or porridage with milk and yoghurt and sometimes a piece of fruit and then she helps herself to a little bit of whatever we are having for breakfast. I was intitally worried about her eating weetbix too young (started around 9 months), but she hasn't any problems digesting it and it is now for fav breakfast ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

Was talking to one of the girls in my coffee group this morning and she normally gives her 19 month old one weetbix, her DH gives her two. The other day when they were both there DD still seemed hungry after two so DH gave her another two which she ate all up. I can only do two at a time!!! Glad I didn't have her nappy that day -------------

I know it's not a proper nutrition website but it was the first non-forum site I found that mentioned weetbix.

wow 4 weetbix! i can do 2 only, even DP only does 3!
I had heard that too bizzy, he has been having the baby muesli up until now but has just decided that he wont eat that anymore, he just jams his mouth shut. he has just started a clingy phase so was sitting on my knee while i was eating my breakfast and he stole some! maybe ill give plunketline a call and see what they say he is being really fussy at the moment so it was just a relief to find something he would eat! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Mmmm porridge!
Gremlins have weetbix on the weekends and toast and fruit during the week coz we have less time during the week and they can feed themselves toast, they refuse to self feed anything off a spoon. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

oh thanks for that idea, ill try him and see if he likes that, he likes lumpy things that he can chew like macaroni cheese etc so hopefully that will be another option

Leah also like it when I mix half a jar of fruit with milk for her ricies as a change from yogurt. Leah will only feed herself and hates it if we try to help her. Although she will eat from our forks and our plates if given half a chance (not that it happens very often!) -------------

I encourage my kids to try to feed themselves as soon as they can hold a spoon. Although this can be very messy it gives them independence that most kids crave. I think by memory I started by us both having a spoon. ------------- Sara Corban (22/11/04) Connor (18/04/06) Chelsea (21/05/08)

I did exactly the same as 2bmumof3 with the 2 spoons. Keira loves her weetbix. We used to do half a weetbix with youghurt, and toast. Theese days its ricebubbles with yoghurt, it changes all the time as she gets bored after a few weeks so we try something different and rotate what she has. -------------

Interesting post, I have been wondering when I can start Lauren on weetbix or porridge instead of having to mix up baby muesli!

I give DD porridge made with her milk and she loves it! Haven't really tried her on anything else yet just been very lazy!

Tom has the baby porridge followed by a piece of vegemite on toast. he loves it. havent tried weetbix as its too cold for that carry on DH and I eat weetbix in summer so maybe then. I have tried Tom with normal porridge but I blended the oats to make them finer...like creamota. Went down well. The only reason I stick with baby porridge at this stage is for the extra iron. (and it is so easy to add milk and chuck in microwave for 20sec then stir in some pureed fruit.)
