Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been TTC since January. :)
I was just wondering if people believe that ovulation test kits are accurate?
I say this because I've heard of two separate women who coudn't get pregnant on the kits, which told them they were ovulating on day 15, and then they both ended up getting pregnant on day 12.
I have been using the Clearblue ones. I mentioned it to my GP and she advised me to biff the kits and just 'try' every second day between days 10 and 20.
Now I am freaking out that we are missing the window of opportunity, as although we have best intentions we don't manage to stick to this plan.

Help! what do people think is the best way to make sure you 'try' at the right time?
Thank you so much - am so pleased I have found this forum.

i would say temping is your best option. the kits are good as a secondary thing so you can have warning but as far as knowing when things actually happened then temping is awesome

My tests have also said that I OV around CD15 but my temps seem to say more like CD12. I focused on my temps this cycle as nothing was happening when I focused on the OPK's. Something to note, I got a fade in line for a day or two before my tests was positive and then a fade out line for a day or two so I'm not really sure why or what that means, but I think the general feeling is if you get fade in lines start to BD that day. If your BDing every second day you should be pretty covered though.

I found them really good and found that they linked in with my temperature rise etc. I guess everyone is different though so it is probably good to just cover all your bases.

I used them for one month, I didnt get a positive on any of the days that I used them and I used them for about 15days. So I thought I wasnt ovulating, I even went to the docs. We BD'd atleast every 2nd day to cover our bases and I got my BFP that month. I dont think I will use them again when it comes to it

I haven't used anything at all so far.

The only thing I am doing differently this cycle is that we are bding every day for two weeks from CD8. I am copyrighting it as the sallybelly method of conception

Mine all link up, OPKs, temping and CM, so they work for me.

Thanks for your advice - I think if we don't get a BFP this time I will start the temping! Thanks again. :)

I think if you BD every 2nd day between day 10 and 20 like the doc says you're pretty likely to hit the right time anyway - depending on how long your cycles are.

I've never really had a proper + before on OPKs but I seem to get two quite dark lines two days in a row and nothing either side so I guess I'm ovulating somewhere around there and I think it matches up with my temperature too :)

I think we'll try the sallybelly method this month as I want to start slightly earlier - just in case

Hehe, the sallybelly method is becoming exhausting. I'm a bit over it now.

I used an opk of sorts, but it is a clear plan one from america, a girlfriend of mine gave it to me when I was living in aust. as once she had concieved her 1st child she didn't have any problems from then on...... its a poas but it then goes into a wee machine which trackes the cycle & it worked fantastic for me.  I hadn't got round to using it this time but that was next months cycle's plan if I hadn't got the +.  I have never done charting, 1st time round I didn't know anything about it all and then I wasn't getting regular sleep time.

Also when your friends have said they concived on day 12 but it was showing that they ov on day 15, the sperm can survive for that length of time plus some so it could have just been waiting for the egg to pop out
