I only had one or two maternity pads I got in my mothers pack from the hospital. Apart from using them in hospital, I only ever used Pams regular lol They were fine! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

i didn't have any where near enough the first time round - bleeding went for nearly 7 weeks, second time around i wanted to be prepared, and kinda overstocked - but am still thankful cos i can still use them for overnight etc now that i have finally started needing to use them again. I found the libra maternity good once things settled down - nice and discreet - but at first the libra goodnights are great for maternity use. i gues everyone is different - good though to start stocking up - as i said, you can always use the lft-overs later if you buy too many, but if you don't have enough hubby won't be impressed at you sending him out at 10pm one night, 4 weeks after you've had baby, to the supermarket to get some cos you just realised you've run out. lol ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

absoulutly! Loved the goodnights to use for some time while it was all heavy and stuff.. with the maternity ones on their own..I was scared to sneeze ;)

I bought whatever I had coupons for (Libra goodnights and Stayfree maternity) and after that just used the good old Budget brand $2 super pads. They seemed to work just as well. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

You can never be to organised. I didnt have any and went into hospital at 34 weeks and was not allowed to leave at all. | I brought 8 packets but only went through 3. Everyone Id different.. another thing, buy a mixture of both thick and thin ones (the 'surfboards' and the ultrathin maternity ones) that way if you dont use them all you could use them at a later date. |

Hehe I bought TWO packets of maternity pads and only used one pack. And I actually used more of them on my c-section wound than for any bleeding too because I had finished bleeding a week after. But I was really glad I had them because I got my stupid period back  exactly a month after I had Alex so it was a relief that they were there. ------------- Mum to Alex (11), Blaire (10) & Erika (8) and Damien (6) Successful HWB VBA2Cs! I've only got one pack - think I'll grab some tonight at the supermarket. Had midwife appt yesterday, and baby is engaged, and ready to come. So possibly an early bubba. This might be a really dingbat question, but with postpartum bleeding I take it tampons are a no no... not to use straight away mind you... but two or three weeks later if you are still going? My plunket nurse told me that it is up to the individual on when they feel ready to use tampons again. I used them for the first period I had after Xandas birth but that is because I feel more comfortable with tampons than pads and suppose because I had a c-section it could be a little differesnt for people who have a normal delivery. ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

uummm this might be TMI, but I'm not too sure you'll be wanting to uses tampons after a vaginal birth... owwwies
I bled (again, may be tmi) for 6 weeks or so after. I used libra ulta thin maternity for about 2 weeks, then some night time ones I had bought (may have just been "using them up?", then onto regular thin pads for a few weeks and liners for the last week or 2. Havem't got my period back yet, but will be confidant using tampons now, but I was still experiencing some pain in November, so if I had got it back then it owuld have been NO WAY JOSE!! (I had scar tissue..) ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

Yeah that's why I said before that I'm not normally a pads girl but realise that it is probably going to be a very different story with post partum bleeding. At least at first (sorry if TMI) its best to use pads because your pelvic floor muscles will be a little weak, and you may have the odd accident on your way to the bathroom. Those pelvic muscles are the ones that hold tampons in place...
Also, the amount of blood is so much that you would need to be changing your tampon every hour or so... Having said all that, I used tampons for my first period after Josiah, when it came back when he was 2 months old. ------------- Becca, mum of 2 girls & 3 boys |

I used tampons for post partum bleeding.
Well... after two weeks anyway. I hate pads with a passion and it was driving me absolutely nuts having to use them. My midwife suggested tampons and at first I was like "No way am I sticking something up there again!" (sorry - Bit crude) but then after another couple of days of using pads I was definitely ready. The bleeding was light enough that I could use tampons normally and didn't have a problem with Pelvic Floor muscles after two weeks as they were strong enough by then. So yeah, it is possible to use tampons after a few weeks. The only problem is that you aren't meant to use them continuously so need to give your bod a break. |
