We have decided that Hannah really should go to kindy for the next 6mos (she's already 4 1/2). Hopefully we can find the "right" kindy next week so she can be enrolled for term 3. Tell me about your kindy and what I should be looking for (good/bad). Ta

even if you are enrolled they may not be able to take her. it depends on how many on the role already and what places they have available, and i think it is first in first served...

but i would look at the people who are working there. are they committed to the kids. i dont think the kindy my boys go to is the best with regards to resources and the look of the place but compared to the better off kindy up the road the people are what makes it. when i was visiting them i found one place didnt even encourage the kids to yell outside and it was in fact frowned upon!!! oh and their food policy i think is important. at gabriels they take lunch two days a week and they do ask for healthy food, the rest of the time the snack is fruit only. the other kindy i saw the kids all brought whatever they liked and had to sit around in a circle eating at the same time...

it really is the teachers that make it
i 2nd what bizzy said, sarahs kindy also didnt have all the flash stuff the others had, and it was in the worst area of town, but it had the best reputation, and the teachers were always really involved in what the kids were doing and always had so much fun.

sarahs kindy was fantastic, the 4+ year olds went in the morning and had lunch 2 days a week and the younger ones went in the afternoons.
each day they were asked to bring a piece of fruit, which they would all have at morning tea.
on the lunch days they would all sit down and have their lunch togeather which was fantastic as it readies them for school.

my mum is a kindy teacher, so i go and see her quite often at work, i was really shocked at a few of the kindys as the kids could just walk around eating whatever they wanted whenever they wanted to.

also if the kindy has both the bigger and younger kids mixed in togeather, they usually wont put out as much resources as they cant do the same things with the younger ones as with the older ones.

id also ask what their phlosophy is.
as 1 kindy here has a "child initiated learning" phlosophy which basicly means that unless you kid comes up with the idea they wont do it, weather its, painting, drawing, making something, reading books., the teachers wont set up any activities or anything.
i thought that was rediculas.
