Hi again,
So we've decided to make some of the nursery furniture as DH is a builder. Do you have to use specific paints or will the basics be ok? I'd be using water based acrylics and was just wondering if standard paints can be harmful during those lovely teething episodes.

I think normal paint can be ok for draw etc but cot's and thing's like that I think you can use a different sort of paint. They have a nursery range at some paint shops so they would be able to tell you a lot more than I can.

i asked the same question at resene paints a few years ago and the lovely lady said go with a waterbased paint just to be safe...but most should be fine as they don't have lead in them anymore

Definately paint in a very well ventilated area.
Any water-based pain should be fine. If you want a paint that is hardy enough to handle those teething moments, I used a water-based enamel paint which can be found in the Dulux or Resene range ( and in any colour). Its normally used in bathroom areas and is a little glossier than standard water-based paints but it is safe to use on baby furniture including cots etc.
