I dont think there is actually that much in it this year for a 3 year old as such. Stuff not really that cheap either.
Maybe I just bought too much for this one. Guess I will have to wait to see what the Warehouse has as I want to finish the shopping for her birthday and Christmas now so I dont have to worry about it later on.
What do you guys think of the brochure? It is on the website.

We tend not to buy toys from K-Mart now due to the fact that they are expensive. The Warehouse have some good specials, we were there today having a look.
Have you looked at Toy World, I'm sure they've still got their No deposit Layby Sale.

On the odd occasion I've looked for toys i've found K-Mart to be massively cheaper than farmers or toy stores. I went to toy world the other day and was horrifed as some things were a good $10+ more there than at K-Mart. Haven't seen the brochure but was hoping for some good specials as it's Elle's 2nd b'day in Aug.

I just took a look and I thought the sale looked fab ...lots of neat fisher price toys! But then I would be shopping for a totally diff age group than yourself.
Mel I used to be a toy fanatic and never found Kmart to be that overpriced ...some of the specials they have in this catalogue look like great deals, in the past I've often found Warehouse can be more pricey than Farmers depending on the brand (i try stay with playskool and FP)...don't get me started on toyworld - some of their stuff is ridiculously overpriced.
Smoody I will keep an eye out for you, supposedly we are in a recession so I suspect there will be lots of toy sales to come, and coming into July it's usually when they all compete! Is there anything you're looking for in particular?
Wish I was none the wiser about this sale though ...

Fiona I agree about Kmart & Toyworld ....toyworld prices are shocking! I was looking for a Fisher Price Laugh n Learn Activity table at Xmas ...Farmers had them half price at $45 but were sold out everywhere ...I rang toyworld in the hope that they had also reduced this item & I recall being told it was $129 at the time ....the RRP was usually $80-90
If that's not ridiculously overpriced then I don't know what is!!!!

Whoa - I was answering Shirenas question and I happen to agree with her.
The Toy Shop at Dressmart is hideously expensive.
I disagree about Toy World, I reckon it's all about timing, I've brought all of the kids stuff from there for the their birthdays etc....
Whenever we've been to Kmart the shelves have been empty, a mess, stock in the wrong places, just a joke, I don't have the time or the patience to hunt around. The Dora stuff at Kmart is definitely more expensive than The Warehouse.

Recently I've found K-Mart cheaper than the Warehouse (when not on special) but it depends what you are after I guess so it pays to shop around. Pricing is so weird...so inconsistent within and between shops. I don't often buy toys so am most certainly not an expert on the topic. I'm just not starting to buy the odd thing now that Elle is turning into a little lady . It is more than possible that the dolls and ponies are more for my own enjoyment than hers!!
I think different K-Mart stores are different too. St Lukes is pretty good whereas Manukau is crazy. I went to SP Warehouse today and it was madness but amongst the jumble was so great stuff. It was probably so messy after a wet weekend...i.e. everyone was shopping.
Anyway...I rant and digress.

Mel - did my post sound argumentative as I didn't mean it that way...I haven't even seen the brochure yet, I'm just learning about toy shopping as my poor deprived (!!!) child didn't really get toys for the first 20mths (we use toy library). I was shocked at Toy World prices at their last sale though...i went to the one at Manukau Super Centre. Will have to do more toy shopping me thinks!

Yeah definitely pays to shop around, and Mel sorry if my reply came across as snappy, wasn't intended in that way at all - just sharing my experiences
You are right Fiona in saying that the prices vary depending on the retailer. Really depends on the toy/brand and age range you are shopping for!

Ohh and sooo true about Kmart shops being disorganized & disgraceful. Manukau especially & Botany isn't much better. Far easier to shop @ Farmers or even Warehouse.

Yeap Steph...and sometimes 3 of the same product, in the same store, have 3 different price tags! I love those price checker thingys. Very helpful
So back to the original topic....did the K-Mart brochure come in the post? I need to find one as I've got Elle's Nana all geared up for b'day shopping next week!

I hate the way Kmart rarely have anything priced. But if you have time (and patience) there are normally alot of good specials to be found at the Papatoetoe store. Mum and I were in there once and luckily there was a lovely lady who worked there with a portable scanner. We spent ages scanning lots of stuff that wasn't priced and heaps were marked down to $2! Crazy stuff that is normally $50ish! but you wouldn't have known if you didn't scan it. I've found Toyworld, for normal RRP more expensive than anywhere else but they sometimes have good sales. I bought Ash for her birthday, a Winnie the Pooh treehouse thing from Toyworld that was reduced to $39.99, then walked over to Farmers where it was $99.99
Edited for my spelling

We're the opposite here, warehouse tends to be a bit messy and hard to find things, kmart is always nicely kept etc apart from sometimes you can't find a price for things but they have the price scanners nearby.
Toyworld i agree with what's been said - by and large in everyday - they do tend to be pricier - BUT, as my other post showed today - when they have a sale - they do it far better than others do - I have gone a few times to their sales and scooped up amazing deals, like ken dolls for $4 for Paris when she was little, and stuff like that. and well - today i got my girls $200 worth of barbie ($100 each rrp) for $20 each. It's all about timing.
right.... now off to look at toy sale brochure!

I have picked up some really good bargains at Kmart you just have to look. I was in Toyworld last weekend and picked a couple Kelly (barbie) dolls that were marked from $49.99 down to $15.99 so I ended up getting a couple for my nieces.
I had a look at Kmart toy catalogue and there is 3 things that I want to put away for this baby for next christmas and some board games for my son to go towards his christmas stuff he has got already.

yay, found it and have a few things that i'd like for the girls - mainly ayja a bike - the barbie one looks neat - i wouldn't get the pavement cycles cos that's like we originally got paris and the tyres aren't reall tyres but made from some weird soft spongey stuff - we took it back anyway cos the frame was cracked and went to a real lbike store for it
and the girls main thing this xmas is lego which kmart seem to have a few sets that are an ok price. - the girls are both into it so we want to get rid of their mega blocks and work on the lego - also looking to get rid of the little people.. (although each time i say that they start playing with them)
There's a cute little hi-5 headphone set that Paris would love - since she loves her singing - i spose the question is.. does EVERYONE ELSE love her singing emough to put up with having it amplified? lol

I think the baby toys were great but unfortanately I aint pregnant yet so cant buy that. But for a 3 year old there isnt much. I think perhaps McKayla might just have too much. She looked with me and just went ooh and aaah over the Night garden stuff and then the baby stuff asking me for another baby and we can buy this for baby.

I haven't seen it, but I must say, KMart St Lukes doesn't really do it for me, the place is always a shambles Then again, our local Warehouse is pretty hopeless too, I tend to drive further to find stores that are better laid out, better stocked and clean.
Have bought heaps at KMart in Chatswood in Oz tho, that's an awesome store!

We just got our catalogue today and there are a couple of things I'd like to check out. The KMart in Henderson isn't too bad.
One really good deal on there is the Little Tikes Cosy Coupe which is only $89 at this sale which is very cheap... annoying cause I got one from Toyworld only a few months ago for $199..
|
Posted By: BuzzyBee
Date Posted: 02 July 2008 at 10:33am
Toyworld is overpriced - especially for their little tikes stuff. But I agree Yumi, that deal is awesome - but actually being able to get your hands on one of these cars will prob be a diff story, I'm *guessing* that every store probably only has one or two. I can't say I've even seen them stock the coupe cars before.
My Nan has given us money to get one for Bub for Christmas BUT I'm trying not to get my hopes up that we will manage to get our hands on one.

I was just comparing prices as have both catalogues here and Warehouse is about $10 -$15 dollars more than KMart in the Fisher&Price stuff.
Its all new to me but DH has given me $100 to spend on xmas and birthday presents so have been scanning. I now know exactly what I want. Had a friend over for lunch so we got the gifts sorted and are heading out at midnight to get them. Just cos we feel like a little excitment and haven't been out at mindnight for a very long time

I went to The Warehouse and got the last Tefal Kitchen they were holding for me....YAY.
While looking around I found atleast 6 parents asking if they had more...one came up to me and asked where I got mine from ....I told her I rang and asked them to hold one for me....she nearly died!! Poor mum!!
I also got a Winni the poo Blastery day toy for DD.
Its similar to the Elephant toy that blowes out butterflys thru its trunk...but this one is a tree and leaves and you have to catch them before the hit the ground. $37.95. Not bad!!
I will go check out KMart but I didnt really see much that I wanted (as DD already has many many many toys).
I am happy tho!!

We went to the Manukau store first thing this morning, they had lots of little tikes cars, so yay Nana & Pop bought one and have stored it away for Xmas.
I was in total disbelief at how much stock they actually had, the whole shop was basically toys, toys and MORE toys...The best toy sale by far!
Luckily my mobile phone had sold on TM a couple days back so I had lots of money to stock up for Xmas, walked away with around 15 really good fisher price toys for bang on $100.
We later went to Toy World to check out the peg puzzles they had for $4.99, I saw most of the stuff I had got at K-mart there at Toy World - the toys on special there were over twice the price that I got them for at K-mart. I invested in lots of little people accessories and kits...they had lots for $10 and $15 etc at K-mart whereas at toyworld they were $19.99-$39.99 - shocking!
Highly recommend the Kmart sale, especially for those of you who have younger babies (say 0-2years) because their fisher price/playskool deals are amazing! Even Farmers & Warehouse don't compare in price.

I went at midnight, mostly so I could shop without Lily in tow! I wanted the mini tramp (same price as at Warehouse but more units in stock) and the slide and ride, both big boxes so hard to manage with a bubba in tow.
Apparently in previous years it has been really busy at midnight, like chocka, but it wasn't at all last night - state of the economy I guess.
Back to the OP, funny, I thought there were so many things that I would have got had Lily been a year or two older, there were loads of things for boys or bubbas from 6 months, then from 2/3 plus, not so much for the one year olds i thought. i guess it comes down to what you have already, and what you want.

I agree there wasn't a great selection for our kids age group ...UNLESS you are into the little people range! I don't go by ages on the boxes so much though, Lucas gets the most fun out of his 6M+ and 9M+ fisher price and playskool toys like the 'wheels on the bus' by playskool or the ball popper and choo choo train.

Yayay we got all the stuff we wanted to get, Ayja has a barbie bike, Paris has a barbie campervan and they have a couple of sets of lego, and a few dvd's, and a hungry hungry hippos game - done.
Now just working on getting rid of our little people to make room for the lego sets in the box. cos our girls are getting a bit old for them now i think.- will be listing them on trade-me in a few months - .. might possibly just do it as a big set.
we have - airplane, pink mummyvan, playhouse set, playground, zoo set, zoo train, circus parading pals, quite a few other little sets of people, a town playmat, and the big town with school and grocer shop, oh and school bus, and limited edition race-car driver and F1 car. - they only play with them when i remark to mike about how long it's been since they used them.. lol

Mum2Lucas- i got the same little people kit for Ella as well, as well as one of the little people tractors. I was quite impressed with the amount of stock they had.

Wow that little people set looks good but I didn't see it when I was there. I was pretty overwelmed and confused by what to get though so may have looked straight past it. I got a delux travel set to go with the Little Mommy doll I have in the cupboard for Elle and some applicances to go with the kitchen. I also go a Dora Travel and Care pony trailer as I wanted a car type thingy and it came with a little horse that Elle will love. I was tempted by some fisher price stuff but wondered if Elle would be over it within a day or so.
