Ok so I am working in a bar at the moment but I'm having a bit of trouble remembering all the special names of drinks and how to make the cocktails so could anyone help me out with special names of drinks and how to make common cocktails? I though I'd make my own wee sheet to print out so when its busy I don't have to keep asking.

TIA

Freak... I was gonna answer this but I can't remember!

Does the bar have a drinks list you can take home with ya?

What are the common orders you get?

I work at zymergy (used to be barfly) by the farmers building.

Thanks for those links noone has actually asked for a cocktail yet but I'm getting all scared thinking about it. It has so many different beers so most people just get beer. There is one tho its like a double dry something something does anyone know what that is?

Double dry something something?

Well... usually 'double' refers to the amount of alcohol. There is a single shot and a double shot: bars usually serve doubles as standard (unless they are stingy like the first bar I worked at ). Though you have to remember that the size of our shots is much smaller then the US. Single in NZ is 30mls and double 60mls, while a single in the US is 45mls and double 90mls.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_glass#Sizes

Dry usually refers to dry ginger ale... as far as I know so could just be a double shot of something with ginger ale.... the far most common alcohol to have with that is brandy.

Hope that helps

You'll pick it up in no time! And definitely always ask... it's better to find out properly than mix up something that the customer gets annoyed about.

ETA: I just read the wiki properly and it turns out a US double isn't two singles (which seems stupid to me!) it's actually 75mls.

oh yeah... and you can get dry martinis etc which means using dry white vermouth instead of sweet red vermouth.

Lol don't you dare (well at least not until I have cocktails sussed lol)

I figured out the double/single thing last time totally by accident. I was given a wee measuring cup thing and I didn't realise one end was double and one was single so I made a few double doubles, luckily the customer was stoked and my boss thought it was funny. Most of the time its pretty quiet so its fine but it gets these really busy times so I'm trying to do some homework.

Thanks for that Nikki I couldn't figure out what the dry bit was
