Okay, when I go to Auckland, I want to take Thomas with me to the pools where I used to live (and near where we'll be staying) They have a kids pool that they use for lessons and a normal big pool that I want to take him in. Whats the deal with nappies and water? Do I just get a plastic overcover thingee and put it over the top of the sposies to keep the poos in? Do they even make these in newborn size? Although i'm thinking he might be the next size up by the time we go - he's juuust about too big for newborn nappies now!
And secondly, do pools let you take little babies in? My MW has no problem with him going as long as he's had his shots first - they happen next week. ------------- Alex, Thomas and Lily http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">

Huggies make disposable swim nappies, i'm not sure what weight they are for though. The other option is to buy a cloth swim nappy, Spencer has a monkey doodlez one and with the amount of swimming we do it has more than paid for itself. Was $27. Again not sure what weight they start at though.
A lot of pools don't recommend you taking baby in until 6 months because they aren't all that warm, even the baby pools are normally only 31ish degrees, whereas baby bath is 37. If you do take him in just make sure that he doesn't get too cold. The other thing you can do is buy one of the little all in one swim suits, warehouse/baby factory etc sell them. -------------

The disposable swim nappies are huge on newborns, but I used one on Lauren when she was just 2 months old (and she as very big baby) last summer in FIL's heated pool. I just put her little togs on over top so the nappy stayed tight against her. Without togs overtop the nappy would have just slipped right off her!
I just watched for her "I'm going to poo" face and would have quickly whipped her out as b/f poo is sooooo runny it probably would have run down her legs anyway!! ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I think each pool has a different rule about babies so may pay to ring and see if they have an age they have to be before they go in.
I personally wouldn't take a 1 month old to a swimming pool. It's not really that warm and they can't adjust their body temps so get really cold really fast. |

I bought the swimming nappies for my girl when she was about 7kgs the ones I got were for 7-11kgs (the smallest you can get in swimming nappies, this is probably because your average 6 month old is about 7kgs. and even then they were swimming on her.

Yeah the small swim nappies still swamp Isabelle and she is 8kgs! However her swimming cossie keeps the nappy in place (and we are yet to have number two experience at the pools).

I agree about the young age thing too, I wouldn't have taken Lauren swimming at such a young age either, but FIL's pool is heated to 38oC and that was in the peak of summer so it was nice and warm when we got out too. It was a brand new pool so we just HAD to give it a whirl!!

i use to be an instructor and they dont recomment taking bubs in cause of the chemicals its not so much temp (although that does play a big part).....the chemicals tend to burn there eyes and tend to be harmful to there skin......6mnths is the norm...having said that...they cant stop you from doing it if you feel it is ok.......its up to you and you know if baby is distressed........public pools use more chemicals (within the guidelines) so as to kill 'little' problems some kids have in the pools.

I took DS to a public spa pool complex when he was 6 weeks old. I just made sure I didnt let his face, head and ears go under the water to avoid the germs. He loved it and slept really well afterwards.
I used the smallest pair of Huggies little swimmers I could buy, which were way too big, they came up to his armpits! They collected a BM but as I lifted him out of the water, it proceeded to drain out too, onto me, luckily not in the pool itself. Keziah is starting swimming in spring  She LOVES to 'swim' in the bath so hopefully the pool is like a big bath to her and she'll love that too  -------------

Levi loves the water now. We didnt take him to swimming lessons as a baby because we couldnt afford to pay for the use of the resort hot pools - $12 a lesson or similar! So we just waited till summer and took him to the river and lake, now when we go to swimming pools - he adores it and always grabs peoples attention with his squeals of delight.
