Has anyone else seen the front page of today's Herald? Tomorrow morning there is going to be a protest against increases in Road User Charges - 1000+ trucks clogging up the CBD and motorways.

And guess who is going to be in one of those trucks.... yep, good ole Willie. I'm proud of him for sticking up for his rights and his job coz petrol/RUC increases have put a huge strain on the trucking industry, but it's going to make it mayhem for me trying to get the girls to school and pick up Kels from the airport.

He's threatening to stand on his trailer and do the haka. I told him, much as I am proud of him, I do NOT want to see him on the evening news!

I was a bit worried about that Simone, the council is advising people to use public transport or avoid the motorways and city if at all possible. But I have to be out in it anyway to take the kids to school and pick up Kels so I'm still keen to catch up.

Good on him. Hopefully the govt might realise that people have had enough. I too think he should do the haka . That would be classic.

But my parents arrive tomorrow & I'll be heading to the airport to pick them up. But maybe they should take the bus

My parents are really peeved about the increase in charges because they have a small family business that does a lot of truck work. Thankfully they won't end up on the news though

Go Willie!

Thanks for posting that Kandice - I just emailed my friend who lives on Epsom Road right near the Racecourse. Hope it's not too bad for her and her wee baby as those trucks all taking off will be pretty loud

Good on him!!

I'm glad they're all sticking up for themselves. It's about time someone gave our parliamentary bean counters the finger.

I want to go and join in in my little 4WD.

And go the Haka. Come on, please let him do it!!

I can understand the need to protest, but I wonder how much disruption this is going to cause for "everyday" people trying to go about thier business (ie picking people up from airports etc.) My DHs work has basically told people not to bother trying to get into the office in the morning, so DH is going to work from home tomorrow (YAY - think he is going to try and come to MM with us, so am so excited!!)

Sadly, I doubt that the government will do anything or respond in any way. Which is pretty shocking as clearly people "have had enough"!!!

Details are all in the Herald too. I suspect that it is going to block up the traffic most of the morning and even into the afternoon.

Won't be too impressed if I'm late getting home though it is Friday after all

Oh yeah, I didn't think about the chaos at your end Kels!

I agree with Sam to a certain degree, it is going to make life difficult for the rest of us who have nothing to do with it, and the govt probably won't pay much attention, but I also think good on them for exercising their democratic right to protest.

Nah, they probably won't listen, but it sounds like it'll be a damned good protest - if you're going to do it, might as well do it well!! Good on them for organising it - didn't seem to take long and it'll make quite a mark (says someone who lives in West Auckland, so won't be affected by it!)
