Hi Ladies,

After a few tips and ideas and I thought you guys might be able to offer some advice.

I've decided to give the nursery a jungle theme as we love animals and I can incorporate lots of colour and contrasts.

So, i'm after ideas or suggestions on how to do this on a budget and not damaging the walls. Cot bedding might not be the go as everyone says duvets etc are a hazard to new babies.

I want to do some wall art, stencils on furniture etc but am a bit lost as where to start.

Anyone got any ideas or stories to tell about your nursery set up?

Dana

We have an animal theme in Daniels room. You can get animal stickers that can peel off the walls leaving no damage.. we got ours from http://www.all4kidz.co.nz/index.php?cPath=274_287&osCsid=6b122356bc6b3ea043a1a519cdb28c60 - all4kids.co.nz but you can get them on trademe but trademe doesnt tend to offer the really good ones.

I then saw some canvas art on trademe, decided it was really expensive but basically made my own and did that for about $15 rather than paying $60 that they were selling for

I'll look for some pics taken of daniels room

A friend of mine did a cat theme for her 5yo boys room. They were renting so couldn't paint the walls or anything.
What she did was got some large sheets of wood and draw a a mural of cats walking through a grassy field with ladybirds, grasshoppers etc sitting on bits of grass. I think there was a cat jumpping up catching a butterfly as well.
Anyway she just used a jigsaw to cut around every blade of grass and any other shape the was above 3feet high then painted the whole thing. It ended up being a border that went right round the bottom of three walls of the room. They used lots of those 3M removable hooks to secure along the wall.

We have a Pooh theme in Jack's room and I have just framed pictures and hung those on the walls rather than stick anything to the wall as such. The Warehouse have some great picture frames and often have good specials.

We have a jungle theme in Oli's room...will see if I can dig out some pics for you. We have used stickers on the walls, and I bought jungle themed cot linen (ie sheets). We bought a great set from Spotlight which had cot bumper, sheets, duvet (which we havent used yet) and 4 fabric wall hangings that are super cute! We found a lime green lamp shade and we bought some white / green drawers from these guys http://www.glitterbug.co.nz - www.glitterbug.co.nz (they are as nice as giddy giraffe but not as expensive). Not sure if you are in Auckland or not, but you can go to their factory and look at colours / sizes if you need to. They have some neat jungle themed stuff too.

ETA - found these pics that were taken before he was born...the room is now a lot more baby like, with lots of books and soft toys, but it gives you a good view of the wall hangings and the stickers on the walls!

if you go to the resene website they have a link to heaps of stencils that you can print out. if you dont own your own place and cant paint the walls you could print them out on coloured card and stick them up. im doing a jungle theme for the kids room too but we own our place and have lots of arty farty friend so we are painting a big mural on one of the walls. and hanging big canopy leaves made out of cardbord from the roof

The main advise I have to say make sure you don't put pictures of animals with googlie eyes - I got these great curtains for jungle theme which i loved - Josh (whom i got them for) was so scared of them cause all the animals had googlie eyes - and obviously at night in the dark were the only things that stuck out.

We are doing a princess room which isn't the same but anyway we are doing it all without damaging the walls. Im doing a huge canvas painting of a castle and unicorn on stuff to cover the blank wall and getting the Princess borders of TM to go around the top of the walls anfd then there is stickarounds to go up with fairies and stuff and we have glittery butterflies to hang from the ceiling. You could easily do all this in a jungle theme instead, (we are doing junge or farm for our next one when we get pregnant ) Try the Munchkins website they have a kool jungle nursery theme and I think someone whould have mentioned already that the resene website has stencils that you can print!

I saw some cool jungle-themed wall art on the Funky Monkey website, that you might want to check out: http://www.littlefunkymonkey.com/blik-wee-gallery-jungle-4/ - http://www.littlefunkymonkey.com/blik-wee-gallery-jungle-4/

We've gone for butterflies (wall art) and flowers (lights), so I hope there's no surprises on 'her' birthday!

I have been watching this topic for a while, and been looking on the net for some really neat bedroom themed linen.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to get affordable themed linen?

Spotlight has some themed cot linen sets. Baby factory/baby city have some but they are way more expensive. We got a cool quilt from farmers but didnt start using it until Daniel was much older (because it was puffy so avoided it for ages cause of sids risk)
