Subject: Hotels In Christchurch/Help With Bday

Right, while kylah is in bed im sitting her trying to figure out what to do for DF's Birthday.

I was pregnant.. Heavily pregnant on his birthday last year so we didnt do aything. He didnt want to go out incase i went into labour lol. I also had just finished work so had no money to buy him anything special. So this year i want to make up for it and give him a birthday he will remember.

His family dont even acknowledge him on his birthday so another reason i want to make it special.

Back to the subject..
Does anyone know of any really nic hotels in christchurch that have decent sized inroom spas?
Mum offered to have Kylah the night so i thought id book a nice hotel room for the night.. But what else?

Iv bought him (on layby) an expensive really nice gold watch as his present, and a bottle of nice cologne (sp)

Also can someone give me some ideas for nice wine.. (Sarah aka Peanut lol) ?
I dont drink wine so wouldnt know what is nice. I dont mind paying up to $50 for a bottle of nice stuff. But cheaper is good too of course.

Next question, Does anyone know of a place that delivers meals, you know like restaurant quality? That way we dont have to leave the hotel but can have a really nice dinner too?

What else can i do, do you think rose petals are too girly for a guy? I was thiking of filling the spa and having heaps of rose petals in it?

I dont know.

check out www.ezibed.com - they usually have some good deals and give a good run down of hotel location, facilities, etc...

The Charlotte Jane Boutique Hotel is gorgeous. We spent our wedding night there and it's wonderful. Pricey though (wedding present from DH's sisters). There's a nice restaurant there, and they might do room service. Not sure about the spa both, but the honeymoon suite had a double bath and a four poster bed

Ooo this is exciting!

Um some nice ones are:
Holiday Inn, Central City one
Peppers (Clearwater)
Crowne Plazza (old parkroyal)
George Hotel
Millennium Hotel
Poplars Apartments

I think most of the above would have room service as they have restuarants there and you can order it for in your room.

Have you thought about going away some where for the night? You could go over to Akaroa and stay at this wee lovers retreat place called Treecrop farm.
http://www.treecropfarm.com/

There is lots of cool stuff there and even a private spa pool. The spa room has an open fire and candles - how romantic is that!
And you can also get a massage table off them for guests to give each other a massage by the fire - soo romantic!

The old park royal use to do a great deal where you got champagne and nibbles and everything also the Chateau on the Park do really good one night deals. Both are really nice hotels.

Most hotels do room service so yu could just do that as its a lot easier and less organising for you.

My fav wines are: Stoneleigh Sav Blanc about $18 or Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc which is about the smae price.

Hope that helps.

What about Champagne, rather than standard wine? You can often get bottles of Moet et Chandon or Piper Heidseick for under $50 at Foodtown. Or go to a specialty wine store and see what really good wines you can get for $50.

Whats the difference between wine and champagne?

Champagne is bubbly, standard wine is not.

Champagne comes from a particular region in France (Champagne, funny that ) and standard wine is made everywhere (NZ makes the best!).

Both are delicious in their own way, but I just thought that seeing as you want this to be a really special night that Champagne would be a treat.

Although in saying that, the two that Sarah suggested are lovely, so maybe I should just shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush

Yeah champagne is good but was thinking that the more exensive champagnes are quite dry and as a newbie to wine its sometimes not as easy to drink.

I think with the chateau that they include a bottle of wine and breakfast in their package...could be wrong tho!

Champagne has the added advantage of bubbles going to your head much faster

Tree crop farm is awesome but if you like life's luxuries you might not like it.  DH and I stayed there one night early on in our relationship and had a little log cabin with no power...just a bed and a log fire (what more do you need).  There is also outdoor baths with fires under them....very romantic.  The night we stayed there is was freezing and non stop rain but that made it all the more cozy

Another option is the heritage in hanmer.  They have packages...actually the heritafe everywhere have packages.  http://www.heritagehotels.co.nz - www.heritagehotels.co.nz

Otherwise look at http://www.needitnow.com - www.needitnow.com or http://www.wotif.com - www.wotif.com for last minute deals.

sounds like you have a nice night planned kandice!!   i definately don't think rose petals are too girly

casino park motel on papanui rd (city end) have a unit with it's own courtyard and spa. that's where DH proposed   it's an outside spa, but the courtyard is so private and the unit is really spacious. the charlotte jane do lovely meals and are just metres down the road.

as for wine......i've tried moet and in my opinion, it didn't taste any better than a $10 bottle of lindaur   i'd rather spend less and get more....hahaha     but i am a bit of a soak

some of my fave wines are
stoneleigh
oyster bay
villa maria
montana
wolfblass
old coach road
five flax
jacobs creek bubbly only
lindaur (brut)

all for under $20. reisling is really sweet, chardonnay is sweet but not too much and sav blanc is dry. bubbly is probably best if you are in the spa, or a chilled still wine, but wouldn't recommend red wine. that's best for with dinner or relaxing after the spa, but in saying that, you prob should mix your drink

another great place to go is maruia springs...i'm not sure if they still do the package, but a while ago we stayed there and got dinner, breakfast and 24hr pool access for about $250. you can also hire private pools which are really nice, they over look the river and are about $15-20/hr

Because I am home alone with nothing better to do I went searching for hotel packages and thought this one was quite good but don't know how much you were wanting to spend.

The Rydges (which is a nice hotel in town) is offering a package for $259 that includes acc for one night, a bottle of bubbly, a punt down the avon for 2, bath and massage kit and breakfast the next day!

If you go on the Rydges website and click on packages you will find it. It was the best deal I could find out of all the major chch hotels, the others were the same price or more but didn't offer much with it.

Hope it helps!

It wasn't so much the food more the service. They way undercooked the steaks so everything was covered in blood and uneatable and still charged full price I'm still mad thinking about ti so I tell everyone how rude they were.

They might have a new cook now tho if Lus friend has just started.

I also found the Speights Ale house in Bealey Ave really average in both food and service. We never go there now and drive to Tower Junction instead but am sooo excoted as I see on is opening in Cranford St so will be able to wander down for Sunday drinks!
