someone just mentioned that newborn poo can really badly stain cloth nappies -- i was planning on using disposable liners anyway, but does anyone know if this is enough to stop it staining?

The meconium poo can stain but I never had a problem with just normal newborn poo and I don't use liners. It only takes a few days for the meconium to completely pass, is black then green for a bit before turning the normal yellowish colour. We were at the hospital for the whole of that so he pooed all of that into the disposables provided by them.

I have a friend that used cloth from birth and she said that the meconium was no different to regular newborn runny poo as far as washing/staining was concerned. My sister used cloth from a couple of days old (she too was concerned about meconium) and although her fleece liners are a little stained her nappies themselves are fine. I'm not convinced the staining on her liners wasn't due her love of copious amounts of Bee Balm
If I had another baby I'd use cloth from birth
