We are heading over to OZ in October and was wanting to know what the rules and regulations are for taking bottles on the plane. Are you allowed to take them on alreay made up?? or what do you have to do??

We took little sachets of formula and asked the attendant on the plane to fill Ashlee's empty bottle with warm water. They were more than happy to do this for us. Ashlee didn't need any baby food but we did take various little snacks on for her. As long as they were sealed and we didn't take through any opened packages, they were fine with this too. I'd say they'd be fine provided they're sealed.
Check your airline's website for the regulations and rules. Most of them will have sufficient info for what you want. |

As Kirsten said take the sachets of formula - they are happy to give you hot water - I find their water is way too hot though so would go to the kitchen myself and get them to fill half with cold water and then hot water - seemed to do the trick.. then just put your sachet formula in (I also took one of those containers with the three lots of formula measured up and they let me do that) yes you can take jars of baby food - I recomend that as I am pretty sure they don't feed infants anymore on their short haul (to oz) flights.
We took rhyley over to Uk when he was 4 months last year and found the flight really easy. Then took rhyleys to Oz this year - alot more trying! LOL It was an age thing though. I know they are alot more relaxed on restrictions now than last year. And they also let you take more on the plane for a infant within the restrictions - like the 100mls - if you took 150mls of cream they let you (or at least they did with me) ------------- Ann

also for your older child - take snacks like little packets of chippies or buscuits etc....Don't rely on the airline to have the snack for your young ones ------------- Ann

Good tip, Ann. We wanted to buy snacks on the way back (we did have some for Ash, but wanted something for ourselves) and they'd sold out. So lucky we had packed for Ashlee!
And true about the hot water too. We topped up her formula bottle with the water from her water bottle. |

You can also take the bottles made up if you like. I have no idea on food as DS wasn't eating at that stage. We took his bottles made up and they were over the 100 ml limit and there was no probs with that.
Its good to know about the snacks and food tho as we are heading away in Sept and had forgotten he would need food on the plane... -------------

When I flew last year with Anastasia, so long as the liquid was for her I was allowed to take it, so I took on a bottle of water & a bottle of milk, she kindly shared on the plane  ------------- Kerryn, Mum to Ashlyn(29/3/04), Anastasia(1/11/05) & Abigail (24/02/09) |

I never even thought about the liquid ban thing they have we have flown a few times with Josh (not internationally tho) and had his water in his bottles and a thermos of boiled water and his whole tin of formula the first time but now use the tommy tippee formula dispensers all packed into his carry on bag/ day bag. They were happy to heat his bottle for me on one of the flights but we usually just over half fill his bottle with water then add the boiling stuff from the thermos to top it up and warm it as we make each bottle. -------------

The liquid limit os only internationally. I am flying with the boys in September and am going to ring the airline once I am in Auckland to know what I can take for Josh. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |
