hello ladies,
just wanting some advice really, our girl Holly has become a really crap daytime sleeper in that she won't sleep for more than 30-45 mins at at time, 3 times a day, so she is only really getting 2 hours sleep during the day if that. Which I don't reckon can be that good for her?? She is 5 months old now and sleeps *reasonably* well at night . During the day with these short sleeps she seems to get tired more quickly. She used to sleep 1 to 1 1/2 hours at a time during the day but I just can't get her to do this anymore. Have tried putting her back to sleep (with dummy) when she wakes but she isn't having a bar of it. And have tried tiring her out more in the day, putting her in JOlly Jumper etc so she will maybe sleep better but to no avail !! She is on 2 solids meals a day so I don't think it's hunger that is stopping her from sleeping. Makes it hard getting stuff done round the house !!! Anyone else have a bubba like this?? any advice on getting her to sleep longer? TIA :) |

It sounds like she is just waking up at the end of a sleep cycle.
Have you tried going in before she usually wakes and just patting her through to the next sleep cycle? (does that even make sense? lol) |

ha LOL yes it does make sense,
yep I've tried that, going in just before the 30 minutes is up and putting in her dummy whilst she is still sleepy and it has worked a couple of times where she will sleep for another sleep cycle. But if I don't do this she is wide awake after the half hour and I just can't get her back to sleep. |

If you keep persisting with going in before the 30mins is up she should then learn to get over the bump herself. Tiresome I know but give it a week and things should be much better.
I had problems with Spencer waking during the night at 5 months and at my plunket visit she said it is quite common to hit some sleeping problems at 5 months as they become a little more self aware and can get seperation anxiety. Hang in there and hopefully she will be back to having 1 1/2 again soon. -------------

It could also be a milestone that you just need to ride out. I have heard that when they reach a new milestone that often practice/dream about it in REM sleep and it can cause some problems.
If she was waking up happy then I would suggest that she only needed that amount of sleep. Jack went down to 3 x 45min sleeps before dropping to 2 naps then 1. ------------- Lindsey

I had the same problem!! Luke would always only sleep 45 minutes (pretty much on the dot) and then wake... In the end I just had to wait it out... even now he sleeps anywhere between 45 minutes and 2 hours... and I can't bank on which it will be when. Today he had only 2 45 minute sleeps... Sorry that doesn't help much. Oh yeah, I tried leaving him in bed, replacing dummy etc and sometimes could leave him there for up to an hour (before he started crying), but he wouldn't go back to sleep - gave up in the end... ------------- Mum to two beautiful kids
