ok who wants to REALLY laugh?
I had to double the cake recipe as there are about 25 kids at daycare and I don't have a cake tin big enough... so I used a frying pan It should be ok though aye? It's just a high sided pan with a handle.
I really hope it turns out ok - I used so much flora, flour, eggs and milk

does double the cake size mean double the cooking time? The standard measurements say cook for 40mins at 180oC. My cake has been in the oven now for over an hour, has a big crack on top and is still gloopy in the middle (I tested it with a toothpick)

Was it you a while a go who cooked a cake in a fry pan?
I would love to see a photo

No that wasn't me... I used a saucepan and if I remember rightly that was a disaster! lol
The frying pan cake is now on the bench cooling so that I can decorate it. Looks ok so far and smells YUM!
I'm having a baking frenzy today (first and last probably LOL) I've just done all 24 mini cupcakes for Saturday's party. Just need to get stuff to decorate those with
*SQUEAL** so excited!

Go you Toni!
I thought the saucepan cake was a success? I remember being very envious because it looked so yummy and we didn't have a scrap of chocolate in the house to satisfy my cravings, hehehe!

I think from memory it didn't cook in the middle and was crunchy on the outside
Do you have to use butter for butter icing or can I continue with the Flora? Butter is just so expensive!

We never cook with butter though (although the ex chef in my DH reckons that spread can't possibly be as good ......... )

We're not allowed to take cake or cupcakes or even sugar-free lollipops to kindy for our kid's birthdays because of the risk of allergic reactions and/or parent's being upset if they don't want their children eating those kinds of foods.
Fair enough I guess but still a bit

I didn't think we would be allowed either as they usually have the same policy but it says it's ok in the handout book we got at the start.
I guess the staff will just have to control who can and can't eat it
But yes, very sad for those kids whos parents don't want them to eat cake (other than for allergies etc)
Right - cake is cooled nicely. Here I go with the decorating part!
ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

YUM! I want some cake....
I still have to make the time to bake the cup cakes!
We were not allowed to take cake into DC either. So I took the popcorn maker and some popcorn. Apparently it was a big hit!
You still going to do Snow Planet?

A bit late now (sounds like it turned out great anyway) but for future ref...if you double the cake size, it pays to turn the oven down 10 degrees and cook longer. That way the outside doesn't overcook before the middle is ready :)
YAY! For tomorrow!
