What's the deal with this? Just found this info on the IRD website and I'd never heard of it before. Anyone know how it works, what the income cut-off is etc etc?

I think the parental tax credit is what you get if you don't qualify for paid parental leave (but I might be wrong).

it is what you get if you dont get the paid maternity leave... so you get 150 a week for 8 weeks.. and we got some WFF as well... not sure if there is an income cut-off...? you can choose how to get it..we got it weekly...you can get it fortnightly or at the end of the tax year.. if you didnt get paid maternity leave and haven't claimed you should be eligible

That's what I thought as well. You get one or the other, not both

It's income tested, I think the threshold is something like $68,000 but don't quote me on that.

Yeah there is an income cut off, someone gave me some good links about this I will go and see if I can find them. Its kind of a sliding scale so if you are over the threshold you might still be entitled to some of the parental tax credit but not all of it.

Here's the link

http://www.workingforfamilies.govt.nz/tax-credits/ - link

As well as that page click on the payment table as well and that tells you exactly what you get for your income, its dependant on number of kids and has the fortnightly payments for the higher income as well.
