Entirely up to you. We moved Brae into his big bed when he was 18mnths, but ive heard of some that have moved younger.
We just used the side barrier thingy. But you could use a safety sleep aswell, that would keep them from falling & moving so much

I've watched lots of threads about this as I've always been curious (and it helps to know when we have to buy a big bed). Most people seem to move them between 18months and 2 years old.

we moved jack when he was 2 as charli was due a couple of months after..........charli wanted a big bed so she went into hers about 2mths ago
it really depends on when you want to move chloe...will you be using a bassinet for bubs? that would give you a little extra time to leave chloe in the cot

I was thinking that we could keep Bubs in a bassinet for 6 months (ish) depending on when he/she gets too big... and then hopefully have Chloe in her own bed... but would that be too young? She will only be a year and a half... but it gives me hope to see that some babies were as young as 18 months when they went in their own bed. I wasn't sure if it could be done.

Yep, it can be done, but I think it depends on the baby, too. Ella was in a bed quite early, and it worked out well for her - she slept better there than in her cot. But some bubs love their cots, and I wonder if it's sometimes a case of trial and error to find the right timing for making the shift. If it's going to cause you lots of stress, then maybe having 2 cots (they sell on pretty well after you've finished with them) for a while would be worth it? Do whatever's easiest!!

i am in the same position and this is something i had been wondering about heaps. I plan to move connor into a bed when bubs is about 4-5 months old. He will be about 20months then.

If you are planning on moving your eldest into a big bed so the younger 1 can use the cot i would do it well before you need to, so the eldest doesnt feel like they are being rejected or whatever & have a bit of time to get used the big bed idea before someone else starts sleeping in their cot.
And dont forget the portacots

Good point Glow.
Maya, how can you tell that they aren't ready for a big bed? So I know what to look out for?

Thanks babyg, nothing brave about it though, LOL.... just a complete shock. But I'm getting a bit excited about the idea now, everyone seems to think it will be cool to have them so close in age. But as for me, it's just all too fresh in my head (my last pregnancy and labour) so I'm quite apprehensive. No going back now though!!

Oliie only recently transistioned to a big bed, we decided to wait until he was ready (he asked to sleep in the big bed). Lily used (actually still does) the portacot and its been fine

LOL LittleBug coz when we had them in beds at a motel recently they spent the entire night getting up and down, bouncing on the beds.... Oh and they are still waking up 3-4 nights out of 7, at least in the cots they are contained so I can let them CIO without having to keep putting them back in bed.
Maya was totally ready at 20 mths tho and we had no probs with her when she went into a big bed.

We bought a 2nd cot, Spencer will be 19 months when this one is born (if it doesn't try to escape earlier like Spencer did), we intend to use a bassinet for a while, Spencer out grew his by 4 months and he was tiny (only 6lb 2 at birth) so I don't think you would get 6 months out of one. Both the cots we have turn into junior beds though so that made a difference to our decision as that will be their first big beds. (hopefully)

Ours do too Cuppatea so that's another reason why we kept them. It will be a push to get two single beds in the gremlins room with all their other furniture so the longer they can stay in the cots/toddler beds the better.

the only reason i put charli into her big bed early was because she kept trying to go to sleep in jack's bed and got really upset when i took her out and into her cot

Hmmm so sounds like some babies are definitely ready early, and others are definitely not ready. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
Sounds like maybe I should get a cot that can change into a bed, Chloe's room isn't big either and they will have to share once the new bubs is out of a bassinet. It wouldn't fit a single bed and a cot, but might be able to squeeze 2 cots in. Hmmmm.
ETA: So new question, how long would a child be able to sleep in a cot-bed before needing a regular bed!?

The gremlins ones say up to 18kg which is around 4 years. Maya slept in them once when I was preg with the gremlins (don't ask!) and she was 3 1/2 then.

Mine say 0-4years. Ours is one that can be used as a sofa as well so i'm assuming it should take the weight of a couple of adults.
