I hear lots of women talking about how you never really sleep through after you've had a child. So some questions for those of you whose kids now sleep through the night:

What is your bedtime?
How long does it take you to go to sleep?
Do you wake? If yes, approx how many times per night?
How long do you stay awake for?
How many trips to the bathroom do you make at night?

Mine:
What is your bedtime? I can't get to sleep if I go to bed before 11pm. If I go to bed before 10.30pm I will still be awake at 3am. If I go to bed after 10.30 I generally get to sleep within an hour.
How long does it take you to go to sleep? Above
Do you wake? If yes, approx how many times per night? Yes. Usually either 1 hour into sleep or 3 hours in.
How long do you stay awake for? Up to 3 hours
How many trips to the bathroom do you make at night? 1 or 2....drives me nuts!

What is your bedtime?  Somewhere between 9:30 - 10pm (although sometimes I stay up until 10:30pm to see DH)
How long does it take you to go to sleep? less than 5mins (I usual fall asleep before I finish my prayers)

Do you wake? If yes, approx how many times per night? No, not even on the odd occasion that Michaela gets up (I just get a surprise when I wake up in the morning with a toddler snuggling up against me).
How long do you stay awake for? N/A
How many trips to the bathroom do you make at night? Nil

I'm probably not a good person to judge yourself against.  I've always been a great sleeper, since I was a baby, and can fall asleep basically anywhere-anytime (which was so annoying when Michaela was NB and I was trying to stay awake for night feeds).

Why don't you talk to your doc about a prescription for zopiclone.  My DH is not a good sleeper.  He generally doesn't fall asleep before 1am and often wakes in the night but once or twice a week he takes a sleeping pill and gets a decent sleep.  You and DH could take turns.

If you don't want to take prescription pills you could also try natural remedies.

  • A cup of warm milk with horlicks in it or a chamomile tea
  • herbal remedies (try healtheries easy sleep and/or peaceful sleep)
  • lavendar bath before bed and/or lavendar scented pillow

I'm so over going to the bathroom at night. I think it is habit as I don't drink much in the evening but seem to need to go more at night than I do during the day. I wonder if there is a way of breaking the habit?

You could try bladder retraining, my womens health physio does it. It never worked for me tho, I am up 3-4 times per night to the loo on average.

What is your bedtime? 11ish

How long does it take you to go to sleep? Depends, can be 5-10 mins or can be 3 hours, especially bad if I got to sleep in the day before

Do you wake?Sometimes for no reason at all, or I got hot or had a bad dream. Unless Gabs wakes me.

How many toilet breaks? Usually one and I go straight back to sleep afterwards.

One thing I do if I am having trouble getting to sleep is, I try to relax myself, so every time I breathe out I try to relax all my muscles in my body a little bit more, its amazing how tense you can be and not even realise. That seems to help me on the nights when its 1am and I still haven't gotten to sleep.

What is your bedtime? 9.30 to 10pm but often just 9pm now that I'm pg
How long does it take you to go to sleep? 30 minutes but can be an hour if I'm chewing something over in my mind - I like to journal to help process stuff out
Do you wake? If yes, approx how many times per night? <FONT color=#0000ff>I generally wake up once a night if DH comes to bed after me. I'm generally a pretty good sleeper though
How long do you stay awake for? 10 minutes probably, but if he gets me past REM sleep, we sometimes lie awake and chat for longer (up to 40mins?)
How many trips to the bathroom do you make at night?  None - but now that I'm pg I get up once a night to raid the pantry!!

Is there a reason for all the questions? I was thinking it might help to put in another question, e.g. what do we attribute to the xyz good factor that you're looking for.

Emma has just started sleeping for 6 hours at night so I thought I'd answer this

What is your bedtime? About 11pm
How long does it take you to go to sleep? I'm off like a light at the mo - maybe 10min if that
Do you wake? If yes, approx how many times per night? Emma still sleeps in our room and grizzles thru the night so I wake up a few times to rock the basinette, rub her back to ease her back into sleep
How long do you stay awake for? A few minutes
How many trips to the bathroom do you make at night? Only go if I get up to feed Emma as I tend to have a sup of tea too
