I got the results for Astins culture today!
It was not a reaction like they had put it down too!! He has Campylobacter!!!  
The doc said it more than likely came from canned fish or chicken so i thought long and hard seen as Astin doesnt eat fish or chicken and remember on thursday arvo i bought a can of that chop chop canned chicken and Astin had some of that around 6pm and he fell ill around 3am friday morning so doc says it more than likely came from the bad chicken in the chop chop!! eeeeeewwwww!!! my poor wee man!!! and im rather angry that i payed $3 for a tiny can of desease that cause my son so much pain!!! of course we dont know that it was that for sure but we ruled everything else out and thats what was left and it fits perfectly!!
YUCK!!! Never again will i buy chop chop canned chicken!!!

Can't say it ever crossed my mind to buy chicken in a can, but I definitely wouldn't consider even trying it now Your poor boy..

Poor Astin, hope it passes quickly!
And OMG I'd be making a bloody complaint... As for chicken, I only had to watch that program on chicken and all the diseases etc- to make the decision that Lucas is never going to eat it. (apart from being allergic myself) I'd NEVER touch chicken in any shape or form (well chicken chips, noodles ...flavoring being the exception). Didnt even know it came in cans ....lol ------------- Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :) |

The doc has put him on some antibiotics because apparently it has a high death rate in babies who get it

OMG I had it and was in hospital for 2 weeks

Aww chick! That really, really sucks. Poor wee Astin.
I had it when Benjy was a few months old and it was the sickest I've ever been, bar appendicitis. The antibiotics worked really quick for me, when we finally got the diagnosis, fingers crossed its the same for Astin and he's back to his normal self really quickly. Campylobacter is a reportable illness too so expect a letter from the MOH about it. It might be worth following up with them seeing as you know exactly where he got it from, they might check up on the safety practises at chopchop! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

Aww poor Astin, hope the ABs work quickly and hes feeling better soon.
As for the chop chop chicken, I was going to buy tinned tuna to put in our pasta last week but saw the chicken in a can next to it so thought I'd try that. Wasnt til I got home and put it in our pasta that I saw its a product of Thailand Just did not enjoy my dinner that night, but none of us got crook. I think you should be hearing from public health soon as campylobacter is a reportable illness, so they will probabaly follow up your hunch about the tinned chicken
Off topic but kind of related, when we arrived in NZ, my friend told me to be carefull of eating chicken in NZ as most chicken was infected with Chlamydia (think she meant campylobacter but it still makes me chuckle) Hope he starts feeling better soon, it's a nasty illness in adults so poor wee thing. Funny how just reading a label and seeing that the food has been made in a country such as Thailand, China, Hong Kong etc etc can REALLY put you off buying/eating it! I bought some Watties fruit pottles wihtout realizing they were a product of China, least to say Lucas didn't get to eat them in the end. when Chop chop chicken came out my SIL in weelington showed me the tin and said it is Yummy!! I looked at it and thought...NO WAY Its chicken in a can....no way!!
My DH bought a can to try and it is still sitting in the pantry! Then I started to hear that its not too safe to eat etc. So Yay until recently when they started to show it in the ads...I thought WTF?? I am so sorry to hear about your little man, hope he gets better soon. As for you feeling guilty...well dont!! How were you suppose to know? I feel guilty because i should have used my common sense! because in hind sight it DOES! sound like a totally dodgy food!! i mean chicken in a can!? WTF! and reading how terrible campylobacter affects adults i well up at the thought of my poor tiny man in that much pain!!
Astin has had 2 does of AB and today his 'runs' have come back with a vengence!! it had slowed down to 2-3 times a day and was beginning to harden (sorry!!! i know - GROSS! and WAYYYY TMI!!) but now it is back to every hour and running as hell! honestly it appears that his food is just going straight through him!! I can make out everything he eats!!

You have no control, as soon as the food hits your stomache your body will repel it immediately with the worst cramps. Poor lil guy!!!!
I found that I just didn't eat the whole time but had heaps of powerade and water and a few crackers here and there that way the cramps were alot less (and also less to come out) TMI TMI TMI. Yeah mine was like that too. I'd start feeling a bit more normal, so try to eat a little and boom, straight away the runs would hit again.
Like Neosha's Mummy, powerade was my friend and I just laid off food pretty much until I felt sure about eating again. Anti-b's took about 2 days to start working for me, and I felt soooo much better once they did. ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:
