As of September I've agreed to start doing work again.
The ideal plan is to do 1/2 day in the office and then work a total of 20hours from home. I was supposed to be getting a student nanny to share with another twin mum but that didn't work out. Not being a native NZ I have no idea of the options. Plus have no family/friends that I could approach. So what are my options? Ideally I'd like just to put the girls in care for 1 day a week. This I assume rules out Daycare? So I'm guessing homebased childcare would be the best option. The only one I know of is Porse. Who else is there? And where else could I look? Thankfully both my work and DHs work are flexible so for the short term I'll probably just go in for a few hours early on a monday morning while DH works from home. |

There are a few options. If you're thinking home based care try contacting porse, barnadoes and homegrown kids. Many daycares have a minimum requirement of 2 days per week but a friend of mine from had her son in daycare 1 day per week and that was fine (he's in jvil or newlands can't remember which one, I can find out for you though). The other thing is do you have any responsible nieces/newphews/cousins thinking of doing a NZ OE soon that would consider being an au pair in return for a room and some spending money and 6 days off each week?

Have you spoke to Wellington Nanny Collage??? I know you can get one through them on a part time bases and then at the end of the term you can if you want hire them. Or if you want a nanny there are a few agencies in the yellow pages in Wellington. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Thanks Mrs MoJo, I'll ring those tomorrow. And the name of that daycare would be great too!
It was the Nanny College that I was going to get the student nanny from. It just didn't work out as my friend was the one who applied and she ended up having her girls a few weeks earlier than expected so her attention was elsewhere obviously. Ah I just noticed the MB club have a 'returning to paid work' contact so will email her too. |

COuld you take on the nanny yourself?? I can ask my sister (who is a nanny down in Welly) who are some good people to talk to about getting a nanny in if you like??? ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Many childcare companies will ask for a minimum of 12 hours care and some (like Ashlee's current one) will only take kids from certain ages. It's unfortunately a matter of ringing around and asking if they will take the girls for one full day.
Barnardos does an in home programme, like Porse too. They have a website somewhere. |

Another good option for you might be Student Job Search - you would get a Victoria or Massey University student most likely (I think you can ring SJS for a particular institution if you wanted). I started working as a part time nanny while I was at university - my first job was with 5 month old twins! Their mother advertised with SJS and also interviewed nannies through Porse and a couple of nanny agencies I think. She chose the "unqualified" one  I stayed with that family for the four years I was at University and have continued working with children since I moved to Asia too. You never know, often there are great people out there who aren't studying to be nannies!
Just another thing to look into. You'd probably have to put a bit more into screening/interviewing yourself but there's no minimum hours per week you have to employ someone for at SJS. ------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

I have a nanny for the gremlins, was the most cost effective option with having two of them, and it means it doesn't matter if they are sick etc., she comes anyway. They are in their own environment, sleep in their own cots etc. and we qualify for a childcare subsidy. We got our nanny thru Homegrown Kids at the recommendation of the MBA. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Thank you so much for all your input.
I do like the idea of having a nanny for a couple of days a week but I like my personal space too much to have one full time
I went down to Woolworths and there was an ad for a flexible Babysitter/Nanny/Cleaner. Which would be exactly what I want. I've left a message with her and hopefully will hear back soon. Becks, I'd be interested in finding out about the good nanny places in Wellington too. |

Becks, I'm in Churton Park.
I was talking to the babysitter/nanny person last night and although I'm meeting her on Saturday I don't expect much. I've pretty much decided that I want to go through an agency now so will look at nanny options. Thanks for that info too Mrs Mojo! Lots of phonecalls to make this arvo!

The other place to try is Tinies. I don't know much about them except I got a fridge magnet from them at a parent and child show some time ago. -------------
