OK so this is gonna sound really dumb seeing as I have done the whole birth thing before, but Chiara is three weeks old today and I am still really sore. I don't remember being this sore after Maya or the gremlins, and certainly not this long after birth.
The pain is right along my pubic bone, kind of where I guess my uterus has shrunk back to. It's kind of like a dull ache, but when I cough or sneeze or pick up a gremlin it really hurts, like a contraction almost. I had far worse afterpains this time than I had the last two times which my m/w said is coz my uterus isn't as 'toned' as it was before it had grown 4 kids which makes sense, but with the pain still hanging around I'm wondering if I've done some damage down there? The birth was pretty fast and furious. Did anyone else find they were still sore this far out from a normal vaginal delivery? -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Thomas is 2 months old and i'm STILL getting that pelvic bone pain - almost like it's not quite gone back to normal. I didnt think it would last this long!

See my posts after K was born - it took almost six weeks for things to not feel so painful. Mine was different though, more around the tailbone area, like I had bruised the bone, and also with my tear. I didn't remember being that sore for that long either. Maybe we just blanked it out!

I'm still getting a bit of niggly SPD pain too but I put that down to being less fit when I got pregnant this time, and having to carry the gremlins around.
I did mention the pain to my m/w and she wasn't too concerned but I'll check with her again next week if it's not better. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Hi Emma. I was sore after my birth for about 4 months, before I finally sought treatment. Prob diff to you though, most of my pain was in my lower back and pelvis etc. When I had contractions during labour, the pain always centred on my lower back. I tried craniosacral therapy, which is very gentle, and now I'm completely pain free. DS also had a couple of treatments, as he had very bad reflux and was in a lot of pain too, and he turned into the most contented happy baby after treatment. The first thing I'm going to do when I come home with my next baby is book us both in for a treatment, it was so good! I know someone who had rather fast births (one was 20 mins from start to finish!) and she said that the faster the arrival, the worse the after-pains, especially when breastfeeding. ------------- Andie |

Im still sore too  My tummy really aches, and radiates right around to my lower back. I asked my midwife during my 6 week discharge and she said the uterus had shrunk right back down , and that it would just be my AF returning.. 7 weeks later I'm still waiting for it!
I had a really awful, painful pregnancy and I'm sure its just going to take my body a long time to recover this time around. ------------- Mummy to two beauties... Formerly Kaiz. |

| Iwas sore for ages, still get pain there and also on the scar tissue from the stitches. I guess it just takes time. |

I'm still sore! But I have to go see the gynae so that's probably not helpful  However it's improving a little I think, so I thought I just needed more time, but then my MW pointed out that the preggy hormones are probably helping loosen things up again. So *shrug*
