Are they easy to get rid of???
Are they common after brain surgery???
as much info as possible would be great thanks.
FIL had brain surgery last monday and DH has just had a phone call to say that FIL has been moved back to Intensice care because hes got a brain infection. DH has just gone to SILs so they can talk about it so i want some info as sort of like a heads up or something to ease DH as he seems like a lost little boy over the whole thing right now ...
TIA

Sorry to here about your FIL. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
I don't know alot but my DH uncle had brain surgery after a haemorage and he had a infection. He went back to intensive care and had to have antibiotics to get rid of it and be monitored closely. I think he may have had a few infections in the end so was a long process to recovery with that and rehab.
Due to the haemorage has had some brain damage - can't talk properly or walk. That wasnt to do with the infection. He is really happy though to have had a second chance at life.
Sorry not much help but I do understand what you are going through.
All the best.

My sister is a nurse in the neuro ward at Wellington...I've been trying to get hold of her to ask but haven't managed yet. When I do I'll ask her
Sorry not much help now but hopefully she'll have some useful info when I get hold of her.

Hey Amber
My FIL had brain surgery almost 16 years ago, to remove a tumour.
He contracted two bouts of chemical meningitis and pneumonia, post-op.
He is alive and well today
What medication is your FIL on, do you know?
FIL was put on hefty amounts of Dexomethazone (an anti-inflammatory) for 4 months afterwards (any longer than a month, we found out a few years back, is not advised) As a result, he's going in to have his second hip replacement surgery on Wednesday (he had the first one replaced 3 years ago) as the drugs eroded his hip joints.
It took a long time for him to recover completely (it knocked him around, emotionally), but he's otherwise fine
Big big big big HUGE hugs to you and your family.
Feel free to PM me with any further questions. I wasn't around at the time of the op, but I've known FIL for 8 years and DH is only happy to relate his experiences
I hope this helps? My thoughts are with you
