I've heard you should definately wash baby's clothes and blankets and stuff before they arrive. Just wondering what to wash them with though? Normal washing powder? Or sensitive stuff? What about fabric softner?
Let me know if you have any ideas!

I used Lux Flakes then Amolin with Maya, and Next Generation or Ecostore with the gremlins but now I just use Persil Aloe and Chiara seems to be fine with it.

I just used normal persil stuff, we use ecostore now though as its better for his cloth naps. I also bunged his stuff in the dryer for a bit to fluff it up when he was little, sometimes when they line dry they can be a bit stiff but 10mins in the dryer makes them nice and soft.

I've pre-washed all baby's clothes using the Ecostore powder ... love Ecostore products
I just washed them according to instructions which generally seemed to be a warm/cold wash.

I was like tha too Kriss....I think its called "Nesting"....well thats my excuse!!
To be honest tho I still put a cap full of Dettol while washing DD's cloths. It gives them a fresh smell...I like it. It doesnt harm her so why not?

Funnily enough, I use a lid full of Napisan (pink one) in every wash because DD comes back home with lovely marks on her cloths from Daycare, then normal powder and two lid full of Dettol. so yah...covering every thing!! I am crazy!
However I wont be washing this baby's cloths with normal powder untill I know baby is not sensitive to any thing!

I got told not to use ecostore on wool.
It can ruin wool over time.
I have got the ecobubs wool nappies and they said not to use it.
We looked it up on the website and it said not to use the powder but the liquid was ok.
Just thought I would share incase anyone has nice things that Grandma has knitted

I am going to start washing all Kaitlyn's second hand clothes so I know they are well washed before she wears it. We can only use low suds because of our washing machine and add a tiny bit of fabric softner and napisan.

I still wash my son's clothes in Lux Flakes, it is so nice and is good on his skin, which turned out to be sensitive in the early days.
We use Nappy san to soak the DC clothes which tend to come back quite dirty.

When V was little i bought the napisan baby care (white pack) and used normal powder. i think i was using ecostore at the time.
Now i use ecostore or a special one mum got me from malaluca (SP?) that smells so nice & is so safe from harsh chemicals etc.
I used Fabric softener on his clothes & always washed them in a warm wash. Normall wash our clothes on cold. Now his clothes get thrown in with ours coz most of them are dark. But whites normall go on a warm wash. Just put a load of baby stuff through to fill up the load i had. Bubs due in 9 weeks or so. Deffinately prefer to wash them first for someone so little. Espesh coz most of his clothes have been in storage for a ocuple of years or used by someone else in the meantime

my sil recommended lux flakes - and even bought me a box! so that's probably what i'll do. i'm worried about getting everything dry in this weather though, cuz it's bad enough trying to get our regular washing done at the moment, not to mention all of bubby's clothes too!
does freshly knitted clothing need to be pre-washed too?

I've washed all of bubs clothes in Eco Store washing powder using only half strength. Also have Lux Flakes
Can't remember where I read it but said that you should not use enzyme based washing powders/fabric softners for newborns as there skin is too sensitive to handle these types of things and can also contribute to nappy rash etc.
As they get older and there skin toughens up you can use those type of products
Would still prewash woollen knitted clothes unless you know where the wool has come from and how it has been treated. Gentle hand wash and lay out on a towel to dry and keep there shape.

I thought you weren't supposed to use fabric softeners cos they can stop the fire retardent in baby's clothes? Is that not true?

I never used F Softner on DD's cloths!

kmarie, i'm not sure bout washing bubs blankets, i guess i never really thought bout it. i knwo i did last time, and i guess for at least the first use ever i would personally prefer to wash them. they are more likely to b up around bub's face i guess where the skin is the MOST sensitive?

I guess that all makes sense... but man, it seems like a mammoth task, especially with the weather we've been having At the mo I'm struggling to get through the washing just for dh and I - I haven't even started attacking the loads of washing for bubs! Maybe it might be a little easier after this week when I'm finally on maternity leave. Any great suggestions for getting everything dry?!!

Bring on the next Sunny day and I will wash the next lot of linen!!

I use persil sensitive low suds & huggie sensitive fabric softner & throw them into the dryer. With some of the clothes & linen I've brought for my son, I've washed as usual but just before baby comes I'll do a rewash with just napisan. Probably wont use our normal powder until he gets abit older, My chillies are prone to a bit of eczma.
