Well this is understandably not something that people talk about and it's something I didn't know about until recently , and that is apparently it is quite common for women to poo while giving birth.. Has anyone else heard this? I guess during the birthing process you don't think about it much but I can't help but worry a little bit about it.
In my mum's days she said they used to get an enema so it didn't really happen but they don't do that anymore..

yeah I worry about this too. Also heard that they clean it up before you realise. I suppose when your giving birth you wont care.

I didn't think it was us actually 'pooing' (man that sounds gross) while we are pushing, I thought it was the pressure from baby that can push any excess out you may have in there when baby slips out?
Am I wrong?

nah, thats sounds right. it makes sense, i mean the whole pushing urge feels like you need to poop anyway.
my body cleaned its self out naturally while in labour, i was pooing heaps, so must of been empty when it came to pushing time.

Actually, the sensation of "pushing" baby out feels just like you're pushing out a big poo!

Yeah Becca - they told me "push like your constipated" when I was giving birth to my boy. I had never been constipated so didn't even know what that was supposed to feel like!! I completely surprised everyone in the room cos they hadn't heard that before!!

lol, my midwife got me to try pushing on one of those birthing stools, she kept saying "pretend its the toilet and push like you've been holding in a poo all afternoon!" i couldn't concentrate for laughing. (needless to say we gave up on the stool)

I didnt because I spent the whole first part of labour on the toilet with both ends going (sorry TMI i know)but you really honestly wont even notice if you do, and Im pretty sure they wouldnt announce it anyway. imagine that "hey did you feel that, you just pooed everywhere, hey everyone look she pooed!" cant see it happening.
