Has anyone noticed a difference lately? Our new tin is a different shape, lid etc and the actual formula seems a different consistency? Its quite powdery if you know what I mean and when mixing it it froths up a huge amount, like I may as well be feeding him a fluffy! Has anyone else noticed a difference or is this just a weird tin? He doesnt seem to mind and drinks it as usual

I never liked karicare cause it was really really frothy!!

this tin is smooth rather than having the usual indents in it, the lid is plain instead of having the name embossed into it etc, it says expires sep 2010 so isnt off, wonder whats up with it, hate the frothiness its horrible

has anyone had any trouble with the new formula? there was a little pamphlet in the lid explaining that they have changed the production but it is still nutritionally the same.
However T has been vomiting it all up after every bottle and is refusing all liquids now

oh no - I've still got 2 and a half tins here of nurture starter which is the same as its always been (we live out in the country so I always have a couple around so I dont run out) - I really hope Zoey doesn't have an issue with it as it dont want to have to change :(
And I looked on their website and couldn't find anything about the change and their pics are all with the old tins

i called the company to find out if there was any special new ingredients in it that he could be reacting to. Anyway, she said lots of people had called but he was the first that had reacted so i guess its just bad luck! so im sure your girl will be fine

SimoneF, funny you mention this! I too phoned the company as its way more frothy and the consistency of the powder is more grainy and although I was thinking how different it was, it wasn't until DH mentioned to me about that I actually acted upon it. I was quite surprised he even was aware of the difference without me mentioning it!
Anyway, they assured me that it was exactly the same formula etc etc.
Since Lauren started on a new tin yesterday she has heaps of wind and spewed three times. She can get her own wind up no trouble, but she is definately different on it than the old style powder.
The old tins have ribbed bands, the new tins are completely smooth with no ribbing around them, IYKWIM??
Interesting.

Im glad to hear that it wasnt just him! the lady made me feel like it had to be something else upsetting his tummy but i knew it was the formula!
god i wish they hadnt changed it poor wee sausage is just miserable, its giving him really bad wind too, she said that the new formula is designed to mix easier so you dont need to shake it just give it a wee stir so that it doesnt froth up so much

Thats the same reason she said to me aswell about not having to shake it anymore. It didn't bother me having to shake it, infact I have a habit of shaking it and now it ends up a big bottle of froth!!!!!!
I think it smells different too, it smells much like that milk powder you can get for adults

She never used to be windy at all.

exactly its a habit now! i tried to stir it but now he has a complex and wont open his mouth if a bottle comes near it!
he has always had wind issues and i think this is just making it worse

I also noticed the difference, but luckily DS doesn't seem to have reacted to it.
Hope all the bubs settle down soon.
I don't like the new tin, I liked being able to use the blunt edge to scrap off the excess formula off the spoon.

Hi Ladies, have not been on here for ages...
My friend told me today that her plunket nurse had said there had been issues with babies and this formula. The reason is that they are using milk powder from Belgium where they feed there cattle on grains and hay in comparison to ours which are grass fed. The Plunket nurse told my friend that the GOLD follow on uses NZ ingredients. I haven't researched myself, but maybe worth looking into?

Thanks for that info BsMum how ridiculous is that!
We tried the gold formula when he first went on to the bottle but he would spew it all up, ill give it a go and see what happens!

Hi BsMum, I just figured out who you were, long time no see I had a name change too - previously "Amber".
That's interesting about the formula. We're using this formula too but haven't had any trouble with it. Livvy would spill up after every feed when she was on the 0-6mth gold one so we never tried the gold in the follow-on formula. Maybe we should now.

Our DD only started on the red Heinz follow on formula about a month ago, and yes I've noticed the difference in the new formula too. Doesn't seem to bother her but like some of you, I don't like the froth! Went to Foodtown on the weekend and bought the last 7 cans of the 'old' formula on the shelf to stock up!

I am tempted to do try Lauren on the old stuff again. Reason being is she is covered from head to toe with a spotty rash, and it is seriously bad. I have been to the docs twice and the only thing they can put it down to is a virus BUT thinking back now, Lauren started on the new formula on Sunday morning, by Sunday night she had this horrific rash appear, seems to much of a coincidence to me. Hhmmmmmm I am not entirely convinced this "rash" is viral, I am leaning more towards a reaction......
I tried to call the helpline again, but of course they finished at 4pm

jett had a massive reaction to the heinz gold 2 a few months back, they changed something in it.
he lost over 2kgs and was throwing up constantly, was feverish and at one point was so sick and floppy he ended up in hospital on a fluid drip. i had him to the doc over 15 times in 2 weeks!
funny as heinz STILL havnt got back to me on that! i spoke to 4 different people and none have got back to me.

Just wondering if anyone can help - Luke has had one tin of the new formula and has has terrible diarrhoea! It goes everywhere!! There seems to be nothing else wrong with him and I am fairly sure it is the formula doing it. Wondering if I can change to the gold follow on - should I have any problems changing over to that?

I'd definately try something else. I wonder if any of this formula came from China? Apparently some did get on our shelves and it seems such a coincidence that all our bubs have reacted. I dont think we ever had the new stuff as I didnt notice any change and it was around the time we were shifting to cows milk...now THAT caused diarrhoea

Caden had been on Heinz Nuture since he was a month old and he had no problems with the old stuff but when they changed it, he got the runs. I didnt think anything of it until I read about lots of other babies having reactions.
I took him straight off it and onto Nestle NAN, but had to change from that because he was in agony with wind Now he is on the Heinz Nuture with the purple lid as that is still the same thank god, and he is fine.
I hate how they went and changed the blue lid one, Caden was brilliant on it until they went and messed with the ingrediants! Grrrr

It makes me so cross that the formula can be changed without telling anyone - this is the only food sorce for some babies . I heard that they are restricted on what publicity they can put out - I think it is because of the stupid WHO pro-breastfeeding guidelines NZ has signed up to. Don't they realise that restricting the information is making babies sick and putting their health at risk. I know that breast is best - don't they think that many FF mums would BF if they could. GGGRRRRR
Sorry - rant over

jaycee I couldnt agree more, it really utterly pisses me off! I also read that they are restricted as to what publicity they can put out. And on all the tins it basicly says "brest is best and to consult a doc before putting your baby on formula" obviously MOST women have a damn good reason for using formula, so when they do and eff around with it like this it really hacks me off.
They need more info on formula!!

I read on the TMMB that the sachets are the old stuff, so might get a few of them to help wean him over to something else...
Just a bit reluctant to put him on cows milk becuase we live in the country and it would be really annoying if I ran out of milk (and I do all the time!).

Although, Caden is doing well on the purple lid one, so I wont change him again unless he starts to not agree with the one he is on. Im SICK of changing formulas.

There was a huge thread on trade me about this. One of the ladies , who had really ypung twins ended up going to fair go and they ended up doing a story on it, after the thread topped 400 post, heinz made up a username and posted an apology in the thread, not only for lying to all the worried mothers that phoned and were told nothing had chaged but also for not informing mothers in the first place, then they released an article to the media so fair go pulled the story and 3 news done it instead last week i think.

wish i had seen the fair go article!
Bel, a teacher I used to work with uses powdered cows milk for the exact same reason, they live in Beachlands and there is only a dairy so really expensive to buy milk, apparently you use a cup of powder per litre, not sure what the taste difference is but you could ask plunket or something?
I have heard that its easy to wean them onto the nestle nan brand thats what alot of my friends have done, apparently its the same thickness and similar taste as the nurture

I think it's time that mum's started standing up for themselves and made enough noise that all the formula co's either ditch the WHO code completely or look at getting it revised. It's not set in law so none of them actually have to abide by it but none of them want to go it alone and not stick with it. We need to start writing in force to Min of health and the companies themselves. I'm about to do it because I'm furious at the lack of information and at this stage the co's have absolutely no accountability because they're not required to give us any info. In saying that, once I've actually asked for specific info I've been given it - but I don't think we should have to ask - it should be freely available from all health professionals - not just those who have bothered to learn about it. To many of them are sticking thier heads in the sand.
Sorry for the rant but I'm fed up with meeting other women who feel like me - I think we should all make a stand and say it's not good enough!

I agree Kate, its SUCKS! Its like they take formula lightly, changing the ingrediants and then lying about it!! WTF is that?
Heinz have really stuffed up on that one!
It makes me so mad because there are so many mums that have no choice but to give their babies formula(like myself), thats our babies only source of food while they are so young and it worries me that they go and do this sort of thing.
Sarah-How many mls is ryan drinking now? and how often and do you think he would drink more after he has finished a bottle? because caden drinks 200mls in about 10mins and he would sometimes drink more than that if I let him! But I try to give him 200mls every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Sometimes he will drink less than that, but he will be hungry sooner. Thats how I know he is a hungry baby.
You could try ryan on the purple lid one, if he isnt a super hungry baby just offer him a little less than you normaly would, like if he has 200ml normally, maybe try 150ml. Its just a thicker formula and fills them up more.
They havent changed this one so thats why I put Caden on it. He is doing well so far.
The Nestle NAN ended up upsetting his tummy alot and it was very pricey.

Unfortunately Nathan is a hungry baby too so I switched him to the Nuture Plus but it really upset his tummy ...I perservered for a few days but after a visit to the doctor today he advised me to go back to the Nuture Starter (the one thats changed). I hate the grainy-ness of it but if it agrees with him then I'm going to stick with it. Babies and their tums are definitely individual
