DH was desperate to get a tattoo (his first) of our baby girl's name when she is born.
I dont particularly mind whether he gets one or not, though it does make me happy and kinda proud that he feels enough love to mark his body with our baby's name, after all it is there forever.
Does anyone have any experience with tattoo's concerning children? Any regrets??

I'd like to get a tattoo that somehow represents my daughter but so far I haven't decided exactly what I want...
I think it's a great idea and bugger what other people think! If thats what he wants, then he should go ahead and get it - good on him!

I have one on my foot, a hibiscus flower with my sons name under it. (my boy is half samoan)
I have always loved the flower and wanted something special for my son.
My DH has the outside of his calf designed with our sons name in the middle, it is all island designs as he feels strongly about his heritage. (imagine if we have a few kids, we are going to run out of room lol)
For me, my family have always HATED with a passion tattoo's. I have always loved them. It seemed right to do it and certainly do not regret getting it done.
I have had so many lovely comments from people, even strangers.

I have seven tattoo's, and one on my right upper shoulder of my DD's name:
My mum has never been a big fan of tattoos but I think by the time I got around to #7 she didn't mind too much.
I am going to have something done to represent my angel baby next, I think, as well as for my uncle that passed away recently.
I'm also not too fussed what people think of me having tatts, that's their problem not mine!

DH is getting Jack's and #2's names on his heart. He already has sleeves (tribal) and another one. We are going to design one that incorporate all of our initials and I will get it in my bikini area. I wouldn't look good with a tattoo in a place you can see, I want it to be just for us. Plus I'm a teacher so its not a good look.

i have 2 tattoos and DH has 1......i wanted to get jacks name put somewhere but decided to wait until we'd had all our kids so i could do something special 'all in one' IYKWIM
apparently we are finished having kids (i'm not so sure) so will start thinking of something to get soon
you either love them or you hate them, but at the end of the day, it's your body (well DP's) and if wants to do it, then he should

I think it's a great idea! And like so many people have said, it's his body so he should do whatever he feels comfortable with. Plus your child is always your child no matter what so it's not exactly risky (like getting your partner's name could be, not saying you might break up but YKWIM)... and there's always places you can get them that no-one else needs to know about
DH has one planned for his back that's a celtic cross which will (eventually) incorporate all our kids names, just trying to figure out how best to do that when we don't know how many kids we'll have! emz - i love your idea of a design with all your initials!
I'm keen to do something as well (I already have three) but will probably have something small and individual for each child.

My DH has our twins names (1st and middle) running from inside elbow to inside wrist (one on each arm) in WHITE. Looks funky, we own our own business and he wanted something a little less conspicuois (sp) he has 7 others and they are mostly unseen except for the HUGE dragon on his calf.
Everyone that sees them remarks on how cool they look.
I have yet to decide hpw I want to commemorate the birth of our children, but it will def. be in ink form. Its addictive, like pringles, once you start, you can't stop.

Anyone keen to post pics of their DH's tattoos? DH is really keen to get one with Laurens name somehow incorporated into it, but he can't think what and needs some ideas!
He already has 3 tattoos, and would love Laurens name on his forearm (same place asTravelGirls DH)) but due to his occupation cannot have anything that would be exposed in summer shirts etc.
TIA

My brother has some amazing tatts, one of his sleeves was on the cover of some Australasian tattoo mag a few months back. He has Marilyn Monroe with a tear, Elvis, a microphone (he is a muso, can you tell? ), and it's all in awesome color. The bugger with them tho is that he'll have to have them reinked every 10 years or so or they'll start to look faded.
My other brother has some good ones and some not so good ones (he has two full sleeves too) and Willie has 3 nice ones and then one forearm has a whole heap of nasty-as home made ones

Thats the beauty of the white shorty, its so sutble, that it looks great, and the more tanned you get in summer, the more it sticks out. (DH's look FAB in summer, he is a painter so spends everyday in the sun. You just have to be careful around veins, on a cold day, the white can take on a bluey/green hue sometimes.
Peachy, we own our own business, and deal alot with customers, so DH was keen to have something that was a little more discreet than the usual black.

I have a half sleeve of a Phoenix (the bird)... I got that when I was 4 weeks pregnant (I didn't know I was pregnant at the time)... Tom actually named Phoenix, it had nothing to do with my tattoo... but now it just seems like fate.

Travelgirl thats a good idea using white, makes it a little less obvious. I will suggest it to him. We also have our own business and its located in Parnell, having big exposed tattoos would not go down well with the type of clients he deals with!!!

Unfortunately it isn't a great idea due to increased risk of infection, plus there is more blood circulating in your system and you do bleed a little bit afterwards. I think it is mostly a liability thing for the tattooists, as are a few other things during pregnancy IYGWIM...
