Has anyone else been watching this series? (TV 3, Tuesdays at 8) I have found it really interesting, and it seems to be pretty factual. I definetly wont be microwave thawing anything in glad wrap again!! And I thought the info on packaging was so true, I certainly would have thought "Lite" chips would contain less fat than any other type. Will be reading the packaging a bit closer from now on!! ------------- Mum to Mr 10, Mr 6 and Mr 4

I never saw it, what was it about the glad wrap. Did it leech out chemicals into the food? -------------

I couldn't believe that people were microwaving glad wrap, I never had I just assumed it would melt.
I haven't seen the serious as it clashes with Hells kitchen, I did see a bit of the fish one though which has put me off fish for life. -------------

I watched it. Gladwrap is okay. It is the wrap that the supermarkets and meat places use that isn't. Cause they use a special kind so that it doesn't let the meat go brown, rip easily etc. Apparently that stuff when heated in the microwave - like you do when you defrost meat - that is bad. It leaches chemicals into the food. However it did say that the levels were low. Once wouldn't be a problem but continued use is bad. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I caught bits of it.
I was happy to see Tupperware had a good rating 
I liked the 1 a few weeks ago where they compared frozen veges to fresh....turns out frozen is just as good, so we have switched to a lot of frozen as we never finish all of it before it goes yuck. ------------- http://www.alterna-tickers.com">

some other plastics also can leach the same chemical into food too, esp if heated and/or if the food is fatty... it is also the same as the plastic coating on the inside of tin cans. (the same too with the plastic baby bottles)

Bizzy - I was lost with the WW thing. Cause I "think" they asked whether WW has more kilojoules or not, not whether they had higher fat.... is that right? Cause they could be higher in kilojoules but lower in fat couldn't they? And therefore still the healthier option.... maybe? I don't know - just wondering.... ------------- http://lilypie.com">

i never used to put gladwrap in but got told and shown it was ok so do when defrosting meat(weirdly I would never put my own gladwrap in there though! ..i never defrosted it on the bench or the fridge when pregnant due to the listeria risk so defrosted it in the microwave... :(!!! I saw the ad about baby bottles? what did that say? yeah I watch Hell's Kitchen instead too:) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

I love this show and watched it yesterday. I knew about Gladwrap thing and never used it in Microwave. But what worried me a bit is the baby bottle and other plastic Container thing....I dont think I will be heating any thing in plastic here on. And watch the "7" in each plastic container!!

Back to WW food again, when I did the program about 3-4 years ago, I was shocked to find that often the ww products were higher in points than the same thing in another brand.
I know Tuna and Fries were an example, and museli bars.... Very interesting I thought and a great way fro WW to make more money! -------------
