I have always been prone to getting these since i was 3 years old! and now have one again!
I couldnt get into the doctors today and i have some ural sachets in the cupboard and my question is * ARE THESE WHAT MAKE IT GO AWAY OR ARE THEY JUST TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER?? AM I WASTING MY TIME GOING TO THE DOCS???

If you have an infection the only thing that will fix it is antibiotics. If it's just an irritation then Ural, cranberry juice and lots of water to flush it will help, but if there is bacteria growing then you need antibiotics.

The ural might give you some relief overnight til you can see the doc tomorrow.

I have only ever had one so not really an expert but I think the ural is to neutralise your urine so it doesnt sting as much but ultimately you need antibiotics to kill off the infection

might be wrong though! A friend of mine used to get them ALL the time then started taking the Blackmores cranberry tablets once a day and hasnt had one since, just a thought

I don't know the answers to your questions but you need to put [/IMG] on the end of your signature

The only way to know for sure is to do a urine test, then it takes 48 hours to grow a culture, altho they can get prelim results within a couple of hours. I'd just turn up at the docs and ask them for a form for the urine sample.

It looks like you might get away with putting [/IMG] only on the second one. But [IMG] at the start of both - haven't checked how many characters though.

Surely your nurse could just prepare one for you over the phone and you could just pick it up?

I used to get them really bad all the time and got sick of taking antibiotics so went the homeopathic route - there's a couple of different things you can use depending on your symptons but I found Cantharis was brilliant.

I also took cranberry tablets (and still do) and since the last infection cleared up and I've kept up the cranberry I haven't had one since :)

problem with cranberry juice (as opposed to the tabs) is that it's not as concentrated and if it's got any sugar in it, it completely defeats the purpose, as sugar is an irritant to infections if that makes sense?

I also suffer from them a lot since I had my son.
They are awful, most of the time it is antibiotics to fully clear it up. The ural and the likes only help ease the pain etc.
I now also take canberry to help prevent them and have not had one since I started to take it.
I also drink ALOT of water, more than 1 & 1/2 litres a day.
I hope it clears quickly for you.
