Its cheaper for call centres to outsource overseas when they operate 24/7 rather then have people here work night shift apparently. India is a common one to, they try and train the staff to speak with 'kiwi' accents.

Manila makes a change - most of the call centres I seem to call are in India, even though they pretent not to be and all have western names.

Has anyone else had LOTS of calls from "It's your next holiday"? They always seem to call at THE MOST anoying time. I got so fed up with them calling me every day that I finally yelled that no I wasn't interested and stop calling me!! .
It is tempting to vote for Peter Dunn simply because he is proposing to introduce legislation where you can 'opt out' of being on calling lists - kind of like they have with email stuff

Once you are on that 'calling list' you cant get off it. Also after a year of someones phone number being disconnected, it gets recycled, so a high chance that the last person who owned your number was on 'that' list.

Telecom is working on moving its whole entire contact centre over there as its WAYYY cheaper.

Thank god Telstraclear is staying in NZ otherwise i wouldnt have a job

We have been having heaps of problems with our laptop and when we ring HP it goes throu to Indonesia and then they tell us to send the laptop to Hamilton to get fixed .
It really pisses me off, and frustrates me cause its so hard to understand them.

That call to 111 would have to be a freak accident. I know 111's are answered in Palmy ( I used to sit under the 111 bell, it is damn noisy sometimes).

Make sure you complain to Telecom if you are not happy with the service. They are trialling outsourcing some of their call centres to the Philippines and if all goes well they will close down all their NZ operations and move the whole lot there. If they get complaints/bad feedback they will keep things in NZ.

The 111 call was *not* answered in Manila, he must have misheard, or is trying to stir the pot? All 111 calls are either answered in Christchurch, Wellington, or Auckland - same thing for *555.

Sorry not right, 111's are answered in Palmerston North (and a few in Chch) and then once you say what you want Police, Ambulance or Fire they are then transfered to the correct emergency service dependant to were you live.

I had a little 111 training done for "just incase" when I worked at the call centre in Palmy.

Yeah that's right....they used to be handled by a division of telecom wasn't it? Something like that anyway, years back that is....one of the ladies who applied for comms same time as me worked for that division.

They are answered by Sitel workers, who have also had the 018 calls shifted to Manila, so if you complain about the fact that the people don't know where you are talking about it will mean more NZ people will get their jobs back (it is close to home for me being an ex Sitel worker a number of my friends have lost their jobs  to outsourcing)

The outsourcing sucks! I'm half waiting for the day they outsource us...after all us night workers do get paid a bundle and when a company needs to cut costs.

I'm sorry, I should have clarified - I meant that once the call is routed to the correct emergency service then it is answered in one of the three 'main' centres.

It still stands true though, that the calls are still answered in general *in* NZ - and thanks for the additional info Becks.

Thats cool, it is also really strange if you ring from say Palmy you would think you would go through to Welly - nope you go to AK or CHCH really strange.
