I cannot express the angry I have inside after what happened today.
I have also cried a bit since being home, I guess the anger and also sad for my poor wee girl.
We went to do our groceries at the local store. Its not the one I usually go to but it has just been done up and I stopped by last week for a few things and really liked it.
Anyway I am half way thru the shopping and Sades needs to go to the toilet so I sent her and Lesieli up to the service desk to ask where the toilet is....... They come back 2 mins later Sades is crying and Lesieli said the lady said there was no toilet. I go with the 3 kids up and ask again for the toilet and get told yes there is one. I send the kids off and ask why they never told my kids there was a toilet. Lady states they dont like kids teenagers using it as they mess it up. By this stage I am getting angry but I leave it as that as I just want to get the shopping finished and get out of there.
Then the girls come back, Sades didnt make it to the toilet in time and has done popsy in her pants. SHe is crying. Lesieli tried to clean her up and is nearly in tears. We leave the shop immediately as Sades needs to get home and I leave with my hours worth of grocerys handed to the closes person.
I am so wild with the shop by this stage so while Mercedes is in the shower I ring up the manager and explain the whole mess. He is mortifierd and speechless and is getting the regional manager to ring me tomorrow.
I am just so angry that my girls were told there was no toilet and Mercedes had to hold on so long that she had an accident. I mean this shop is big and with all the walking to the service desktwice then over the other side to the toilet I would have crapped myself too.
Argggghhh just needed to vent as I am disgusted at the level of service...... And she is only seven what was she going to do in there, wreak a few rools of paper, tag, steal.....Arghhhhhh

OMG. What a rude bitch! I am totally speechless.
to Sades, that must have been so horrible and humiliating for her. Although I'm certain that you've reasurred her it can happen to anyone (and the older we get the more likely it is to happen )
When the regional manager calls tomorrow you should demand that the staff member offer a personal (face to face) apology to you and your girls.
to you and Lesieli too. I totally understand why you were both upset.

That is disgusting and I would be taking your complaint as far as you can go, that is just awful.
What business is it of their who uses the toilet, and to keep a young girl waiting is horrible.
My nieces are of similar age, and I would hate them to be in that sort of situation.

That's horrible. Personally I think it's WORSE to turn away a child than it is to turn away an adult, kids don't have that 'hold on' ability that adults do...but at that age, are old enough to still be very VERY embarrassed by the situation.
Poor girl, and grr at the stupid woman!

Oh my gosh your poor girls, Kels! That's pretty blimmin rude of the supermarket...
I seriously hope some grocery vouchers accompany the heartfelt apology you get, and you don't just end up with a useless "we've spoken to the staff member involved and your concerns have been heard" blah! No, they need to realise that it's not OK for someone to pick and choose who can use the toilet and who can't. How rediculous. Call it 'discrimination' when you talk to them!!

Well they suck at apologising too grrr
I have had verbal apology on the phone and yet waiting to get a written one.
Manager: so sorry BUT they have had so many problems with kids wreaking the toilets that they have called the plumber every couple of weeks.
Me : That isnt my problem and hasnt nothing to do with me or my kids
Manager : So sorry and will send out an apology for you and your family
What a joke!! Am now getting onto area manager and this store manager sucks!!!

Can you shop at a different supermarket or is that the nearest one??? At least you can make a bit of a stand by not spending your money there if there is another one.
That sucks for an apology though. Maybe there will be some monetary compensation in the apology letter.......

Oh dear. I'd take it further too - they obviously don't see what they did wrong. I mean really, if vandalism by kids (bet it's not always kids too) is such a big problem for them then why don't they have a sign stating the loo is for over 18's only, and tell people who ask for it the truth about their little policy? Oh, yeah, I suppose then it would be really obvious to everyone that they've got a shocking attitude to their customers... hmmmm.

Thats disgusting Kels, poor Cedes , shes at that age where things like that are a huge blow to her selfconfidence .
You know what i would do ? i would write an anomynous letter to your local paper, complaining about your treatment there, people do it around here all the time
Might not get you compensation or anything ,but heh, you can enjoy saying exactly what you would like to say to them

Why do they have a toilet then??? Some adults are pretty disgusting anyway.
How could someone tell a 7 year old girl there is no toilet - what a cow!!
That is a good one for Fair Go. That would not go down well for the supermarket if that was publicised!

would be neat to see target do a thing on supermarket and service station toilets.
i remember them doing one on how clean they are but mabye they should do one on letting kids use them as thats just plain rude.
id tell them that you wernt satisfied with their appology and take it further.
id also ask them what they are planning to do to rectify the problem for future kids who need to use the toilet.

That's so shocking Kels - and stupid! I mean, the teenagers who vandalise the toilets probably aren't going to go up to a staff member and ask to be directed to them, are they? So not telling those kids that do ask and need it isn't going to solve the problem anyway, the ones who cause the trouble will know where the toilet is and go in there without anyone seeing if they can help it.
If they're that bothered then they need to take positive measures like locking the toilet and putting up a sign to tell people to get a key from a staff member at the enquiries desk. If that staff member has any doubt about the person using the toilet they can walk with them to unlock it. Or at the very least ask any kids who ask about the toilet to point out the direction of their parents in the store or something. Surely they can come up with a way to deal with it!
Like you say, it's their problem, not yours, and you are a paying customer who had a horrible experience in their store. It's not just that the girls weren't allowed to use the toilet, but that the staff member they dealt with was horribly rude - that's not on when your girls hadn't done anything, she just made up her mind that they were trouble and treated them as such.
I hope you get better results from higher up the management chain. Definitely put it in writing and maybe even send it to the parent company too - Foodstuffs or Progressive depending on which supermarket it was.
