I guess this query is a) because I'm perhaps a little out of touch, and b) I reeeeeeally need to clean out!
When you're trawling on Trademe, what sort of price do you expect to pay for clothing items? No more than $10, $20 ... is $50 ok for some things eg. a brand new label jacket? ( ) Trademe has gotten so expensive, I really don't want to list a pile of things at amounts that won't sell but I'm not sure what people would expect to pay ...
Help?

I think $50 is ok for a labled jacket that is new. I sold a Merino swandri jersey that I had wore a number of times (like all of last winter) for $45.

I normally sell stuff for half of what I paid or more if not used and less if a bit shabby. I sold some clothes from the UK that I hadn't worn or had worn only once and I got a reasonable amount for them. Not what I paid but enough to make it worth listing.
Trademe sucks for all its charges now.

I $1 reserve everything lol and normally get really good prices, $80 for work boots that I wore twice rrp was $160. $60 for a roxy jacket brand new that was $99 rrp and $30 for some heeled boots that I had worn heaps lol they only cost me $49 but people kept bidding!
Oh and I pay for something i really want, have recently purchased some brand new dresses at $45 a peice and was happy

Maybe I should try the $1 reserve - I'm just a bit terrified I may end up kissing a $400 jacket goodbye for $1 is all! Somehow I don't feel so bad if I get $50 for it ...
But, having said that, looking at the pile I need to get rid of ... maybe I should cut my losses and just get rid of it all!! Keeping it to not wear is more pointless than giving it a new home for not much.

For a brand new label jacket, you should be able to get at least half it's retail value...just make sure you put the price that it cost you up on the auction!
I put $1 reserves on the stuff that I can't think of a price for, or something that has some value but that I just want to get rid of.
Anything new, or that has high value I put a reasonable reserve on...a price I'm happy to get if it only gets one bid.
I wonder, with the price of things at the moment, are people still spending/buying on TM much?

Yeah u need to put what you paid for it on there. If you are really worried have no reserve and start the bidding at $50 '. I generally don't worry lol we $1 reserved our brand new laptop and got $801 for it rrp was $1100 but we won it so ALL GOOD

Not only that but the definition of a 'bargain' has changed a little too with NZ Post's increased prices. You may only spend $10 but if it costs $10 to post as well ... TM's fees have really gone up too, but then I suppose the more you're charged, the more money you've gotten back out of whatever you're selling!

I have to say that the pics and description make a HUGE difference to being able to sell stuff.
If you have someone around that is a fab clothes styler/photographer then definitely get in on their expertise. Shout them a bottle of wine with the proceeds or something
I've found linking to the websites of designers also seems to attract people.
If I think of any more tips I'll let ya know.
P.S. Definitely pay for gallery.

Ooo I meant to say you may want to check the trademe rules on linking to websites as I know they've had a crackdown on it recently. I haven't looked into it though.

Hmmm because Im not back to my normal size as yet and dont plan on staying this size ... I try not to pay too much lol.
So I would probably pay up to $10.00 per item ... although I manage to score 4 Glassons skirts for $30.00 so that was an awesome score!
Now ... when Im at my normal size I have been known to spend more per item

Hell yes!!! Providing the little troll complies, our scan is next Wednesday and we'll know then! Obviously, I wouldn't dare keep it a secret
And Paws - don't worry - I just listed a (Kate Sylvester) LBD for $300. That should put most people off!!
It's really interesting to see how things work though - I kind of followed Neosha's Mum's advice and listed stuff with either $1 start and reserve, and $5 start and reserve I sold 6 things one after the other on buy nows of around $30 I think I've been doing this all wrong!!
(P.S. I reeeally hope I'm not breaking forum rules talking about TM? I know I can't advertise as such, but I'm more meaning to talk about the psychology of it and get marketing tips )

Oh. That would explain all the selling Oh well! Better to get stuff out of the house than have it sitting around gathering weird wardrobe smells though - I'd rather get $20 for something and have it gone than ask $40 and have it still under foot I'm considering it a lesson in learning how to buy wisely, think about it, plan it, budget it and not buy impulsively. Ever read the Shopaholic series? It's like Becky Bloomwood when she sold all her stuff in the first book
(BTW - I deliberately didn't put any details of my auctions on here so that I wasn't breaking any forum rules ... I'm impressed you guys found me )
One new thing I've learned, courtesy of a reeeeeally tight budget, is to make sure I build into the sale price the cost of listing and the success fee and pay our household budget back instead of pocketing all the money. Mind you, it's also the first time I've sold stuff without having to use the money to pay off something else I've already laybuyed I'm doing so good with this budgeting thing! (Nothing like a bit of imminent-kiddly motivation to get you to sort your crap out! ) Plus, it's nice making room in the house and getting organised pre-kiddly.
(Oh! and completely random - DH and I have managed to cut our grocery bill waaay back! Admittedly from anything up to about $600 - $700 a fortnight (I know! I know! I know! Insane ) down to about $450 a fortnight ... but aren't we doing well??

How about we say that it does Nikki ...
Lilfatty - DH thinks he's doing it hard going from Monteiths to Speights!! ( )
It does include though bulk buying eg. I bought Shampoo & Conditioner from Ecostore - it cost me $80 for a litre of Shampoo and a litre of Conditioner (including having them couriered to me), which breaks down to $8 per 200ml. I used to buy Shampoo and Conditioner from the hairdresser at anything up to $38 a bottle and it wasn't a grocery item. Now, it's a grocery item, so I'm kind of restructuring the way I buy stuff too. I also bought a $70 breadmaker out of our grocery budget (DH eats a loaf of bread A DAY!), and it includes coffee beans, so we don't buy coffees etc that sort of thing and stockpiling for No.9 ...that sort of thing. I'm learning slowly, and oddly feeling really, REALLY good for it! I think one of our bigger expenses is meat - DH is a bit meat eater, and we buy more expensive cuts. We tried going in on a beast to cut that cost back but the deal cost us quite a bit in the end.
It's quite funny seeing DH come to terms with things - he saw the budget for the first time the other day and fell off his chair. He thought our mortgage was $400 less per fortnight than it is Poor boy. He also didn't realise that we pay $500 a month in insurances. Every couple of months I make him look at our budget so he knows, as he doesn't deal with the money side of things.
Oooh! My other big achievement was cutting my phone bill right back - I was spending $60-$70 a month (texting and calling merrily and blowing my free minutes and texts out of the water). My last bill though was $28!! Weee!!!

Bless Ginger ...
DH thinks its an amazing treat when he gets beer (I feel sorry for him on the odd occassion)
But .. I dont include shampoo and conditioner in our grocery bills ... and its $30+ each ... I have however gotten better at eeking it out (and I think I got the last lot as a "birthday pressie" so even better)
500 on insurances?? whoah! ours is only $150 however we dont own a home so dont have house insurance as such just contents and two cars.

We have contents, two cars (one is European, so pay a premium for Euro and the other is a Subaru, so pay a premium for that also as people love to steal Subarus I wish they would steal ours ... ), house, plus health, life and Visa insurance (although that varies according to the balance at the end of the billing cycle - I can get that right down by paying my Visa fortnightly). It's amazing how it adds up!

Is your insurance in a package? Maybe it'd be worth talking to an insurance broker to see if you can get it down? $500 per month seems like an awful lot! (Mind you, I don't really have lot of insurance so wouldn't have a clue.)

Hmmm I think its the Subaru (they are magnets for theifs .. and have kick ass quick motors lol).. we have two European cars and still no where near your amount
And our health insurance is covered by my work (yay - as thats over a 100 a month) .. oh and I dont have visa insurance.
Do you need that if you always pay it off in full?

No - I'm going to cancel it soon. We had it on there while we were doing renovations because the bills have been huge, and there has been a decent sized balance sitting on there for about 6 months (we worked out it was cheaper to pay Visa interest for 6 months or so than put it on the mortgage Plus we'd be able to just lump sum it off as quick as we could and be done with it. Although we weren't expecting quite a few expensive things to go wrong ... like losing the diamond in my engagement ring ... in the meantime to set us back paying it off! )
You're right - it is the Subaru largely. I have a little wee Polo

Ack - yes, they replaced the diamond but not the cost of fixing the ring, and the jeweller I used was a professional contact (never, never, EVER again will I use a professional contact) who didn't follow my instructions and farked up the quote and ensured that it cost me about $1400 I think it was in the end

Apparently you have to get your rings serviced every year (there's a clause in most insurance policies for it) and if you fail to do so, it's your own negligence and therefore they won't cover the cost to fix. They cover the resultant damage eg. the loss of the diamond, but not the actual fault that caused it Blimmin insurance companies!

I know! I still feel like I'm playing a game and it's not really real ...
I remember seeing other people's tickers hit this sort of mark and think - how cool! They're pelting along in their pregnancies!
I'm a bit scared leading into our scan next week - I have absolutely no reason to be, I'm just still braced for something to go wrong I guess Paws did tell me ages ago though that this bit is the worst - the morning sickness has passed and you can't really feel anything yet (I get the odd movement but very infrequent) so you're sort of sitting there praying that everything is going ok, without any real confirmation that it is.
