Okay so I told myself I wouldn't post on here until Monday when we see the specialist, BUT I am so worried, or at least worried about whether or not I should be worried That I thought I would now. . .

At our 20 week scan they took AGES looking at the heart, she had to call someone else in, and she also took ages, but in the end we got an 'I am fine with it, looks fine'

We had to have another scan the other day, to check the placenta had moved (which it did) but because of last time we always had it in the back of our minds so we asked her to check again.

Turns out she said 'lucky you got me to check' because she coudn't see the right ventricle or if she could it was really really tiny, her exact words were. "it's really small, if thats even it at all" also the right atrium was mildy dialted.

Is it even slightly normal not to get a good view of this???

SOOOO we have an appointment on Monday, but we are finding the wait HORRIBLE.

Has anyone else had anything at all similiar? Even had to have a heart echo in the first place?? Was it anything?

I have heard about 20000000 stories in the last few days about babies born with heart problems that have been fine, so I am not TOO worried about 'it will be okay' I know surgeons are legends these days if it comes to it.

I really just want to know if anyone has been sent for an echo and there was actually nothing wrong at all, or if anyone has had something similiar happen to them. . . . . . I feel like I am doing 'something' by asking questions here instead of just driving myself crazy waiting!!!!

. . . See that was great, that just cut out a full half an hour of waiting out of my day writing that!!!

Oh yea, and just so you know, the problem is the part from his heart to his lungs, which is bypassed now, so he is perfectly fine at the moment. It would just be after he was born when he actually needs to breathe it would be an issue. . .

We were told at the 20 week scan that baby had a hole in his heart, cleared through a detailed heart scan at 27 weeks, and then at 38 weeks were told yet again there was something 'not quite right'. Anyway, went through all the specialists etc to be given the all clear. They did have a neonatal heart specialist at the birth though to check Jack over. 7 months on and he's fine.. they gave me a rundown of what to expect and what to look for in the first couple of weeks if a problem was to show itself.

At 32 weeks they can't get the best picture apparently, and definitely not at 38 weeks when I had another scan - my specialist was so angry that they had made me so stressed as my BP went through the roof etc.

Hope all is well anyway.

We were told at our twenty week scan that there was a serious problem with the right ventricle of kaia's heart. The guy who did the scan spent a long time hmpf-ing and looking at her heart, he said it was quite serious and referred us to the specialist at auckland hospital.

Then about two days later we saw the neonatal heart specialist who looked and rubbished everything he had told us! She said there was absolutely nothing wrong and basically implied that the guy had no idea what he was on about! Not very reassuring about the scan guy but we were pleased.

Fingers crossed that the same happens for you.

Thanks so much for your replies.

Anna that sounds pretty much exactly what has happened so far. Except the enlarged aorta and the fact that they had problems seeing it twice. . . Fingers crossed we come home with some news similar to yours. Glad everything was fine for you!

Also glad Jack was fine!!! Phew must have been a long horrible wait for you. . . I am not really looking forward to actually waiting for the birth if it turns out to be bad news!! And I have totally gone off my homebirth plan!!!!

I was def wondering if it was normal to not see it properly, pretty much come to the conclusion if it was she would have tried for a bit longer and made me change positions etc. I mean they do that just so they can see the legs etc, let alone something major like this.

Eeeep oh well another day half way gone, thanks again for your replies

If you have a detailed heart scan with a specialist, it is VERY detailed. Normal sonographers who do preg ultrasounds are apparently not allowed to tell you that something is wrong, just that there is something 'not right looking'. My m/w complained about my ones as they said there was definitely something wrong and there wasn't.

If there's any question towards your due date of issues with Ash they will probably not let you birth at home anyway. I know I wasn't allowed to. And bubs will be monitored throughout labour as well, so they make sure mum and baby are taken care of. Any issues and they'll just whip him out either exit route.

Thats true huh. So many people have been told theres something wrong and there wasn't and the sonographers have gotten into trouble (or at least should have!! )

We just got a "theres something not right looking . . ." which is just as bad really.haha.

I have completely given up on a hb by now, even if it's 'all clear' I am still a bit in shock by what could happen.

One thing I was wondering, with you did you go into labour naturally and there was a specialist that was always going to be available? I guess it depends on the case, but I can imagine if it's serious they would want the baby there at a certain time when everyone is ready and waiting.

I went into labour spontaneously and was in hospital at 5am on a Monday. They had the surgical team prep me for worst case scenarios etc and they just kept monitoring Jack. He had fetal distress so they were a bit concerned about that too. I think they called the heart specialist at about 7am (so more gentleman's hours!) as well as the other specialist that had to be there. They will get someone if they need to, that's their job.

If they are really worried about it they could induce you (although that can be intense on bubs if not ready) or give you an elective c-section to get Ash out sooner. They didn't do that for me cos Jack was really small and they wanted him in there till 40weeks once we got past the crucial 37 weeks with him. I was monitored every 2nd day and each time had to take my bags 'just in case' but yeah, ended up going naturally at 40+3 and would have been induced a couple of days later.

Just to let you guys know we had the echo and it wasn't the best news, there are a few things wrong and he will def have to have surgery straight away, if not a few. The doctors don't really know how he will do or what will need to be done until after he's born, they just know that it's not going to be that easy or straightforward. But of course we are all positive about it all!!

So yea, lots to take in, but we are doing okay so far.

I am a tad sick of people telling me not to worry, when I think I am allowed to Fine to say try not to worry too much, thats fine. But a few people have said don't worry its totally fine, he will be in and out of hospital in a few days. But we already know it's not simple and it will be complicated, so yea, that's one weird thing that has bugged me in the last few days!!!

Anyone else had to go through something like this personally??
I have stories of my 'brothers freind and my 'neighbours teacher' etc having kids with problems and them being fine coming out my ears!!! So I would like to hear from people that might have been through it themselves or someone really close iykwim?

He has Pulmonary Atresia and Tricuspid Regurgitation and honestly a few other things that are just as bad, but I don't really know the names or anything. There's thickened valves somewhere, leaky this and that and something else is shut that shouldn't be It's all complicated so I don't blame them for not knowing what will happen!!!

We are going in again on Thursday because a few other people want to look so we will have a massively better picture of everything then.

But yea, I thought I would let everyone know!!

We changed the baby shower next week to a 'good luck Ash party'
