Hiya,

I haven't posted in this forum before.

Just wondering if anyone has gone straight into a car seat and bypassed the capsule? I know all the things about convenience with a capsule but are they really necessary??

Yes totally
Seriously it was the best thing we had when he was little, he would sleep at any bodies house or at cafes etc in his seat. If you don't want to buy one though you can hire from plunket.

The are so useful as you can just pick the capsule out of the car and take them into wereever you go without having to wake them.

We have both and loved both. You can get away with not having one but they are really really handy

They are very handy but definitely not necessary. We had one for #2 but not the others - doesn't fit in our budget, or at least lots of other things are higher up the list!!

I didn't have one with Maya, she went straight into convertible carseat and I wonder if this is why she always hated the car - coz every time she went in the car we had to disturb her to put her in the carseat then again to take her out.

We had capsules with the gremlins and have one again with Chiara and I wouldn't be without it, it makes her so portable and she's gotten used to sleeping in it and being out and about so I can go and do coffee with friends or do the school run etc. and she just fits in. We have one with a base so it just snaps in and out, no fiddling around with seatbelts. Oh and I have the snap n go wheels which I also coz it saves disturbing her to put her in the buggy.

I didn't want one as I had read about horrible things that can occur if baby is left in them unsupervised and ended up hearing a very sad story about a Mum I sort of knew through a Mother's Group as well (this was after Jack was born).

Having said that though we did end up borrowing one and I did find it useful if I only had to pop into a shop for 10min or using in the supermarket trolley. However I didn't let Jack sleep in it, I always took him out if we were going to be longer than 10/15mins.

I couldnt have been without ours ... especially when she was brand new and I had to take this tiny thing home .. I would have been scared Id drop her carrying her to the car lol

Then when she went through her newborn where the hell am I stage put me back in your tummy ... the capsule was how we managed to rock her to sleep (attached to the snap n go wheels)

And ... it was a blessing to be able to take her out of the car without waking her ... its super hard to do that now she is in a carseat!

LOL lilfatty, my lil miss decided last week that the capsule is the ONLY place she will sleep! Never mind the expensive, top of the line cot with the safety sleep and breathing monitor and the mobile and fancy sheets, nope, she prefers the capsule

So I bought a hammock, problem solved

We loved our capsule, for the same reasons these ladies have all mentioned. But to be honest, I don't know if we would have gotten one if it didn't come free with the pram we purchased.

Handy for supermarkets, just pop them into the capsule type trolleys (so much better than using those hard horrible baby seat trolleys).

They can get pretty heavy when bubs starts to put on weight, so I recommend moving on to a carseat from 5-6 months. We waited until 7 months, but wish now we had gone earlier, as the buckling in to a carseat is so easy (not having to move capsule in and out etc).

There are pros and cons for both, weigh up what suits you best. Our mothers survived without capsules when we were born. They can just be handy.
