For all you fans of Elevit multivitamins out there just thought I would spread the word that they are available in Australia for $AU50.00

For some reason they are twice  the price in New Zealand!

Have a good day!

Still a rip off!!!! All you need is a preg multi vitamin plus a script for folic acid ($3) from the docs in the beginning. The one I took cost me $30 and I only took it cause I'm a vegetarian. And it has everything you need

I didnt take Elevit with DD and I wa fine...I took Folic acid for the first four months....

With this one the reason I started to take Elevit was because I was feeling really down at the begining of my pregnancy and after doing my bloods for all the obvious stuff they found nothing and Iron was fine! So my Doc suggested I take Elevit because I might be missing some thing....so I did and I have to say I felt better quite quickly!!

I am going to keep taking it just in case!

I use to take Centrum before pregnancy but was told not to take it as it has too much Vit A and Vit K.....

i was recommended solgar over elevit by the pharmacy as apparently the solgar had a special type of iron which was more easily digested and therefore less chance of constipation.. the only downfall for me about solgar was there were two tablets to take every day and most days i only took one as i'm not good at remembering to take pills and things

I took nothing with Maya or Chiara (except folic and then prescribed iron in third tri) but with the gremlins I started out on elevit on my OB's recommendation but then the pharmacist told me it was basically just an expensive version of the cheaper ones with extra folic so I switched to Blackmores.

I have been buying Blackmores Pregnancy Gold with tuna oil added from the supermarket for about $20 plus at the beginning of my pregnancy I brought Blackmores folic acid that lasted 3 monthsand it does the job.

I always throught they were a waste of money, I took folic acid and iron (the $19.95 tablets), but I take the iron tablets all the time so that didn't matter too much.

I started taking Elevit at about 13 weeks preg (because I didn't know I was preg thanks to stupid AF) Anyways.... it made me so sick and highly constipated so I stopped taking them opting for the $3 script from the doctors and my iron levels only dropped after my emergency ceasar and I lost quite a high quantity of blood so THEN I went onto Ferrogradumet

I had to take elevit and extra iron as my iron stores were so low. Was taking balckmores iron up to 5 a day got script so it only cost $3.00. Elevit was expensive but worth it.

Anyway have been chatting to health shop lady and she said to be careful with taking a multi and extra folic cause may exceed 800 what ever it is a day.
Meaning the total intake per day of folic should be 800.

Any way i found elevit excellent i also took salmon oil for omega 3. Kept clear of tuna cause of mercury levels.

with next baby will take elevit again

I just made sure I ate really well and didn't have any problems with low iron or anything. If you can manage it eating healthy food is a better way to give you and baby what it needs than to swollow pills. Obviously some people need the extra boost though.

She's telling you fibs, it's perfectly safe to exceed 800mcg (.8mg) of folic acid, in fact women who are deemed high risk of neural tube defects due to age or family history are often advised to take a higher dose. I took twice the standard dose when I was preg with the gremlins.

I take fish tablets because I dont eat fish but I always thought that Tuna was fine to eat as it doesnt have any mercury?? Isnt Shark, Swordfish and Marlin the ones to avoid because of high mercury levels?

From memory canned tuna is OK but you should limit your intake of fresh tuna. I did read tho that in order for the mercury levels to be a prob you'd need to eat 100g of fish 5 times a week which is an awful lot. It's the big, deep sea fish which are an issue, like shark, tuna etc. as Rianna said.

Not sure about the mercury levels in tuna oil tho coz I've never looked into it.
