My wee man has had a redish bum for more than a week. I asked DC to put cream on it, zinc & Castor oil. This would normally clear the area within 2 days max. I find out they were putting the cream on the nappy not on his bum I spoke to them and had it changed on Thursday to direct onto his bum.
Anyway, today it is stll red! there are more spots and some of them have white heads....
We have never had full blown nappy rash so am wondering if this is it? I have no idea.
Wondering if I need to take him to the DR?

It sounds like thrush to me - so you will need an antibacterial cream like Micreme H, Micreme, or similar. You can have it prescribed and it might come cheaper to you, but it should be available OTC too (without prescription). In fact, if you really want to knock it on the head quickly, I'd recommend applying the antibacterial cream, and then still using a good thick layer of your regular zinc and castor oil cream on top as a barrier.
Hope that helps! We have been down the nappy rash road far too many times in this house, it's not fun for either mum or bub.

Thanks Pearls, I just found it weird as it has white heads.
I am going to take him to the Dr today I think, just to get it checked and we have medical insurance if we need anything from the chemist.
Enjoy your day

Sure does sound like thrush. All the best at the Doc's.
But WTF??! They put the cream on the NAPPY itself?!? OK that's completely weird for DC staff who really should know better.

Thanks, I have him booked in this afternoon. I love our Dr but he is so hard to get an appointment with! Lucky it is something that can wait.
I know, This is the senior carer of the room, she is lovely and feels as a DC it is wrong to directly touch his bottom. I had a laugh with her and said I signed it into the book to enable you to put the cream on!
I said get someone else to change him if you don't want to. (she is fantastic and works so hard for the children....but have to say she has none of her own, she has been with the centre for just over 20years)
So when I dropped him off this morning, I signed it in and said please put it direct on the patch!

political correctness gone too far? very sad that we have to sign forms to allow carers to change and clean his bum properly
Hope Mr T gets all cleared up soon

It is sad! I had a laugh with her at the time, but also said it is awful she feels that way!
So get Tyrell from DC, and they are changing his bum, I check it out and it is heaps better! Always the way! Thought I would take him anyway.....it is fungal.....whatever that means. So we have cream as zinc and castor oil would not fully heal it.
Here is hoping it clears quickly.
