Hi Girls,
If we applied for Family Assistance would they look into our income from previous years to see if we owe tax or anything?
Hubby got paid cash in hand when he was younger and I think he owes tax from this so I'm worried they may rake that up and we owe them money!! Thats the last thing we need with a newborn thats for sure.
Anyone know?

im not sure exactly... but i just want to warn you to be REALLY careful with ird. i recieved assistance a few years ago, and kept up with updating the incoming each time hubby got a pay rise etc... and we got stung by a $2000+ overpayment. we had no idea we were getting paid wrong. so, i now i am having to pay it off and its hurting financially.
i posted about this a while back, and apparantly im not alone. from now on im doing a lump sum payment at the end of financial year, that way they cant get it wrong, i hope.
goodluck!

between ird and winz they all suck... never trust anything they say, because 9 out of ten times they will come back and say that you owe them money even if it's their fault. if i sound a bit bitter, it's because i've been dealing with them both for the last 4-5 years. I think they need to comunicate with each other better, I'm on the dpb, and recieve my fam assistance through ird because i have a shared custody arrangement, and at least once a week i would get mail from them saying i hadn't done something or other, which i had. If you have better luck than me, well done.
