Hi ladies,

I'm confused, I've read that a normal luteal phase is 10-16 days, with the average being 14. I get that. I've just done my first month of temping (with average success - if you see my chart you'll see I wasn't taking it religiously as sometimes I would fall asleep while taking it and wake up 2 hours later lol) and FF says I ov'd on CD40, making my LP 9 days. I ov'd on CD35-36 with Jack and I reckon I did with this cycle too (terrible pains like when I ov'd with Jack).

So am I wrong or are they wrong? I also read that a LP shorter than 10 days can mean implantation can be difficult due to a possibility of lack of progesterone. I guess that could be my case due to my PCOS but I don't really know.

What do you think? Here's my http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/19777a - chart

Oh and I haven't had cycles before much, but the two times I have tracked ov was my first pregnancy (Jackson) and the Jun29, 2008 one.

TIA. Anyone with experience or advice that can shed some light would be good!

Emz, both times I got pregnant my luteal phase was really short. Andrew we think it was only 10 days and Josh it was 8 days. So it is possible.

I also have a short luteal phase and it depends who you ask and what their opinion is on luteal phases. My gnae surgeon said the jury is still out and he didn't buy too much into it, but both my GP and naturopath want to get mine from 7-10 days to at least 12-14 (I have a 26-28 day cycle) and have both said they are surprised I managed to maintain pregnancy at all

You can get ov pain before, during or after Ovulation. Or all of the above. Based on the fact you have recorded fertile CM after when you think you have ovulated.. I am tempted to go with FF.

Dont know anymore about the LP and implantation thing though, sorry.

Sorry Emz I dont know anything about the short LP but I agree with Mel too. The other thing to consider is FF will show your OV lines after 3 consistant temp rises, which you had after CD 40. I would go by FF predictions.

I think FF looks right too. I've got a short LP too, though I've been taking vitamins to extend it and it's gone from 8 or 9 days to 11 or 12 days so much better!! Both my GP and the doc at Fertility Associates weren't that worried about it. All I did was take vitex and mega vitamin B which is a vitamin B complex with a higher dose of B6. The vitex helped it go from 8 to 9 to 10 and then when I took the vit B6 twice a day it went to 12 last month and 11 this month. It also could have been my body being slow settling into a pattern though!! Personally I feel much better having a LP over 10 as I'd heard the same stuff about having trouble conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy but Two Blondinis managed to do this so not an impossibility!!

Thanks ladies.

Yeah still kind of confused cos I had the exact same pains I had when I ovulated before getting pregnant with Jack on exactly the same days, yet I know I ovulated on CD35 with Jack and FF says CD40? Also cos FF gave me my lines after CD35 then took them away once I had 3 more rises after CD40, I thought it wouldn't give you lines in the first place if they didn't think ov was possible? 5 days out is a big difference really. Now it makes me wonder if I should hold off TTC for a girl for anther 50 days (one more cycle if I actually have one) to see if I'm right or FF is right? I still for some reason believe myself over FF but don't know why?

I'd go by your gut feeling, FF is just a computer programme.
I don't trust it 100% I've been really sick this month and had a few days of fairly high temps (not a fever though, but I did note on there that I was ill) FF gave me solid lines on CD8, AF had only finished 3 days before!
