So I've got a new addiction, I'm trying to get hold of some books that I grew up with. I started browsing http://www.fishpond.co.nz - 'Fishpond' and came across a couple I was looking for. Fantastic prices too.

I'm just a little confused as to why sometimes the books are listed several times with different numbers for stock available. I'm *guessing* that the site is run by several companies/book suppliers hence the different prices?

Are there individuals selling used books on there too?

Hmm I want to ensure I'm getting brand new books fertqor the price I pay, some of them I was a little skeptical about buying off.... anyone know the tricks of the trade, how to tell which versions are better to order etc etc?

TIA

btw. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the site if you are looking for specific books...

I've used them before with mixed service. First time I used them they were brilliant, second time they were horrible. So horrible that I'll never use them again

We got a delivery time, then when that came around we got an email saying it was going to arrive in 3 days, then that passed and we got another email saying another 3 days, then that happened again a further 4 times. They were pathetic at responding to emails when we wanted to know why there was all this delay etc. Just got fed up with them basically.

Ahh I see, I won't hold my breath then ...

That would have been EXTREMELY frustrating, espesh if you bought it for a certain date/birthday.

We have used them a few times now. Average delievery time 2-3wks. It was good for some because I couldnt just buy the book from the shops, but unless its a good bargin or hard to find book i dont bother.

I am good friends with the owners - one of which is a member here :) its a NZ company but often books are sourced from overseas - hence delays etc... they dont keep a lot of stock I dont think - mainly ordering as required :)

ANd yes you can sell your own books through them as well - hence the different prices no doubt...

Awesome, whether or not the books take ages to arrive I'm still going to order the other ones I'm after (just gotta wait till I'm richer lol), like someone else above mentioned; I haven't come across them in the shops.

Remember 'Corduroy' the bear and 'In a people house' (Dr Seus)? ....omg I' LOVED those books as a little girl!

I've ordered off them a couple of times. The first time one book arrived within the week and the other took a couple of weeks. The next time they both arrived within a couple of weeks. Was pretty happy with it as I did it all from over here and got it delivered to Mums and it was all straight forward- no problems.

Just want to take the chance to rave about how fantastic Fishpond service is, I only placed my first order yesterday and first thing this morning the CD I ordered for bub is already in the mail box ....less than 24 hours for delivery - I'm STOKED!

I think since I've ordered like 10 items they are all coming separately from diff places ...but each one had diff shipping times and this particular one said 24 hours.

Very impressed

I usually use Fishpond however last week I found the parcel on the doorstep ripped open, my knitting book was still there but Ruby's Where The Wild Things Are was gone! What sort of scumbag steals from a baby!!!! Was so !!!!!

I am going to email them and say they should review their postage, maybe courier with signature.

I got Ruby some great picture books in Te Reo, I thought it'd be fun to learn some words with her
DH begged me a while ago to get her The Butter Battle Book and I got her Harry The Dirty Dog which I remember from primary school (little so perfect for handbag!). And The Very Hungry Caterpillar too!

Isn't it fun to get all the books we loved as kids too!
