Hi everyone - I'm very new here, I am due 6 April, and ever since i found out I'm pregnant I've been aware of the odd weird pain in my abdomen and just about 10 minutes i got a quite strong pain on my right side, it only last 5 minutes, but I'm freaking out about every little feeling i get. Stupid I know. Does anyone else get these pains? None of the books I have seem to go into much detail about 'weird' pains and all my friends who've had children say "don't worry' 'calm down' etc.... PS Am seeing OB tomorrow for 1st appointment.   thanks in advance for any advice x

Hi Moochiecat - the way you're feeling is completely normal! I had quite a lot of pain through my abdomen throughout the first trimester, in fact I still get it on occasion. When I asked my midwife, she said that your body is getting used to having a little someone growing and moving inside it, so it's not surprising to feel some pain or discomfort.

This time around (I had a miscarriage at the end of last year) I actually ended up with such intense pain at 6wks that I spent a night in hospital. But as you can see, everything was, and still is, fine So try to relax and not worry! (Always far easier to say than do...) It's an amazing time and you body knows exactly what to do

Congrats!!!

Hi moochiecat, as horrid as those pains are, the specialists and doctors I've spoken to have asssured me that these pains are normal.  I'm in my 8th week and still experience these pains ranging from slight to really severe.  I know it is very worrying, but unless accompanied with bleeding; they are "normal" pains. Like the other girls have said; at the early stages, we can expect cramping and pain as our body adjusts, the uterus is growing to accomodate your growing bubba and by 7 - 8 weeks it's already double in size!  you can also have implantation pain when the embryo is attaching itself to the uterus, as well as pain around when normally your period is due.  You can take panadol safely during pregnancy if that helps too.  All the best - see you on the April 09 thread
