Hey, I've been thinking about making the transition from cot to bed soonish, I think for us a better option to start off with would be a bed frame that is low to the ground and I quite like the idea of one of those car beds - Lucas LOVES cars and when I showed him one in a shop (was too pricey for my liking) he wanted to jump in it and kept telling me the 'car go brmm'. He's not the best of sleepers, moves all around the joint in his cot (hence why i want a bed lower to the ground).
The cot just isn't working, he wakes several times of a night and I've tried EVERYTHING to get him to self settle back in there, CIO and CC just aren't options. He immediately runs to the end of the cot and throws his chest against the end slats of cot, makes one hell of a sound and if you leave him too long he manages to bruise himself He knows that when he starts, i'll come running. I can't help but wonder if putting him in a bed will change this, he settles fine in my bed (with OR without me) ...and he sleeps so much better in there.
Hmm so yeah, the fact that he seemed really excited when he saw one of those car beds - it got me thinking.MAYBE this is the answer to our sleep problem, the cot just DOES NOT seem to be working. So I have a couple questions if you don't mind:
*Does anyone know where to get them from?
*Around how much I can get a nice, decent one for ....without costing the earth? (I'm hoping by some miracle there are reasonably priced ones out there)
*How long they last in them for - my guess would roughly be up to around 3-5 years depending on size of kid?
*Has anyone personally used one of these, how did it go?
TIA

I think I saw them in Harvey Norman.. I know you can pick them up on Trademe also
I'm gonna get Thomas one when he's old enough for his own bed - Mum keeps saying give him a Thomas the Tank Engine one, but lol :P Good luck!

I've seen them in Warehouse. They fit a standard size mattress so you could use them until they got too old for wanting to sleep in a car!
Good luck!

Yeah the Warehouse have the Lightning McQueen car beds, and I think Spotlight do aswell. I'm pretty sure the Warehouse ones were around $180 or so...

I wonder how sturdy the Warehouse ones are though.... 180 sounds awfully cheap in comparison to the bed places versions that are $300-$500
I know of two stores in takanini but I'm not really prepared to pay that price...

I saw them in Spotlight recently for $180 (not inlcuding the mattress). They were the Lighting McQueen ones mentioned above. They don't look like that picture at all - maybe search spotlight or The Warehouse. They are made more of a wood frame and looked really sturdy and cute.
Good Luck.

Tried searching online ...i found these images - are the warehouse or spotlight beds the one below? I spoke to someone on the phone at Manukau branch and she prob thought I was a right pain, I kept asking lots of questions 'Does it LOOK like a car from the side? As in, will my little man recognize it as being a car? .....' LOL. The one she described to me sounds a little like the one below, she said it was $229 - so maybe $180 is when they were on special?

There are ones at spotlight but they only really have the bed head and end that are the cars theme as such, we have a barbie one from there for addison. they are really cool and low to the ground and have the sides on them. Kobe has a car bed that has the pull out bed underneath and we got it from bedworld for about $600, cool thing about it though is the sides are high enough to keep them in when they are little and its very sturdy, teh ones from spotlight.....well lets just say I wouldnt sleep in it myself, not sure it would hold my massive weight!
