In light of the recent event on the news (pregnant lady at 34 weeks gives birth on the plane on the way from Aust and baby dies)......Can some one please reassure me that flying is safe while pregant??

I am flying to Fiji on the 18th and I am 28 weeks. I was all soooo excited about my holiday but now I keep thinking about the lady in the plane. And no matter what I do I cant get it out of my head!!

PLEASE HELP ME OR SEND ME A ONLINE SLAP!!

Flying is very safe! The airlines don't like you flying after 36 weeks, but if your MW says it's OK for your Fiji trip (and can I say I'm incredibly jealous!), then it will be OK!

Consider this a (hopefully) helpful, gentle online slap!

i flew from japan to aus, then aus to nz at 34 weeks preggers.

then again a year and a bit later.

In aus went to the doctor both times for a check up immediately after and was pronounced to be "in perfect health"

Keep your fluids up, and take waddle-walks whenever possible. you;ll be fine.

that was a freak occurance

Thanks again!![:D]

i flew at 20 weeks to fiji, 28 weeks to australia and at almost 37 weeks nationaly (couldn't face the drive and ferry and carried small).

I have to say that all were fine, and i suspect there is much more to the story on the plane. I was told that as long as the flight was no more than 4 hours in the last trimester that they would have no issues, unless there were multipul babies or complications or a bad pregnancy history, then i would need a doctors certificate.

If you really want to be sure talk to you LMC, they will know, min knew about all but the last one before hand and i told her about the national flight and she just laughed and said even if i had gone into labour the plane would have landed well before i had the baby.

Yup I flew from NZ to Oz and about 27 weeks, and flew back at 32 weeks, so you should be fine.

To relieve your fears, flying while pregnant is safe.

I used to be a flight attendant, flying up to 12 hours a day (I did this during my first pregnancy) up until my 34th week.

The reason why airlines want to to know if you are over 34-36 weeks isn't because it isn't safe but because it can be costly, (airlines won't tell you this is the reason).

If someone happens to go into labour, esp on a longer flight they may have to land (and give birth) in a different city, causing delays to the other passengers and other flights, etc.

So don't worry and have fun!

I am 8 weeks pregnant, and months ago my hubby and I bought tickets to Europe (non refundable). My GP and midwife told me it would be safe for me to travel, but I am worried about radiation in airplane. Does anyone know if radiation in airplane could harm my baby?
