Heres the government guidelines on food safety during pregnancy- some people choose to follow these very strictly, others choose to eat whatever they want. I think its a good idea to read what the 'professionals' recommend and then decide for yourself from there.

http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/consumers/low-immunity-child-pregnancy/pregnancy-food-safety/ - Food Safety in Pregnancy Guidelines

The main ones to avoid as a general rule of thumb are sushi, ready made salads, raw fish or meat, cold meats, raw egg, unpasteurised milk & cheese etc and obviously alcohol. But like I said, look into it yourself then you can weigh up the risks and decide what you feel comfortable with eating/not eating.

You may also want to avoid peanuts if you have a family history of allergies (food, hayfever, eczema etc).

Hot chips
Yoghurt
Chicken (as in roast chicken)

If you are lucky enough to have no morning sickness (ms), then just eat whatever your body is asking for - within general health limits of course (not limited to icecream! )

I lived on plain potatos during my first trimester.  I also had an up&go every morning (sipped very slowly) to stop to morning nausea.

When eating for 2 it's important to remember that you're not actually meant to be eating double.  The statement is aimed at making you think about the types of foods you want your baby to be eating.  My main tip would be to make sure you have heaps of good healthy food prepared and easy to grab because when the exhaustion hits you won't want to bother with food preparation.

There was an article in the Healthy Food Guide about healthy weight gain during pregnancy.  Here's the link http://www.healthyfood.co.nz/articles/2007/february/stopping-the-weight-gain-eating-for-two - http://www.healthyfood.co.nz/articles/2007/february/stopping-the-weight-gain-eating-for-two

Good luck for a happy healthy pregnancy.
