The past few mornings I've woken up with really tight calf muscles and sore legs. Feels REALLY good to stretch them, but I'm just wondering if it's a pg thing?? I do yoga twice a week (and have been since before I got pregnant) but can't think of anything else that I have done differently this week to give me sore legs?!
Hmm, don't suppose that's really a question, more just wanting to know if anyone else gets this or has had it?

Does it feel like the start of a cramp? cos it's quite normal to get leg cramps in pregnancy, at antenatal class the physio lady said that it was best to stretch it out by pointing your foot with your toes towards the knees rather than pointing the toe down which can cause the cramp.

I got chronic calf cramping during pregnancy. Sometimes it didn't wake me, but I knew I'd had it as I'd wake with sore calf muscles (they'd come right as the morning progressed - once I'd streteched them out again).
I took magnesium supplements and it did the trick!

Ahhh, yes it's exactly that kind of feeling cuppatea! And it feels better if I stretch my toes up to my knees as well. Wonder if cramping in the night is partly why I'm waking up so often but I haven't realised it.
Might try the magnesium supplements if I wake up with the same thing tomorrow as well. Thanks for the tips

I had the cramps with my 3rd pg'cy at around 24ish weeks I think. People talk about magnesium tablets but also salt can often help. Mine settled down after a while, it wasn't with me for the whole pg!

i used to wake with these during the night with my last preggy, mw told me to take magnesium tabs so i would take one every night if i knew i had done heaps of walking. also can be something to do with the amount of salt in your diet? Anyways, i foudn if i took mg tabs, i was fine & the nights i didn't take them, i woudl wake up in agony. when it happens, ice on for ten mins, off for ten mins then on again for ten mins i used to find was enough to relieve the pain so i could get back to sleep. also a couple of panadol sometimes helped.

Hi I had that awful leg pain at nights in my first pregnancy - same thing - would wake up with it! I had some Origins 'Leg Lifts' gel I'd make DP rub into my legs and that really helped! Also used a body shop leg lift gel too - also helped! Oh and it went away alltogether at 18 weeks or so I think!

Iv got sore legs and hips as well. Its not very comfortable and I hope it doesn't hang around for long. I have also had a really sore tail bone.
I'll try adding a little extra salt to my diet and see if that helps.

sor ehip scan be sciatica pain. i find it transfers down my legs & aches in my hip joint, my knee joint & my ankle all at the same time. You could also try talking to your mw and getting them to refer yo for physio if it keeps up. The physio should be able to help you manage it.

Thanks so much for all the tips! I woke up with pain free legs this morning - hooray! I had a look at my prenatal vitamins bottle yesterday (I ran out on the weekend and hadn't gotten round to getting any more) and they contain magnesium. Got some more and took those and last night - no cramp/sore legs. Maybe just a coincidence but I won't be running out of those again in a hurry
