My Dad purchased the Edinburgh Apollo push chair from the baby factory for me  and within six months the push chair's clip that the safety harness clips into broke as did the parcel tray but what was more alarming was that areas of the frame began to rust out including the frame for the back rest. My DH took the push chair back and it was sent to the baby Factory's mechanic. None of the broken parts were covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The broken bits came down to wear and tear and the rust came down to apparently being taken out on the beach once and not being looked after. Also apparently I was supposed to have used a silicone spray after use over the wheels which the instruction manual did not state.

The push chair has been on the beach once but was thoroughly washed and dried as it has been time after time. Also my Dad asked for a push chair that could go on all terrain and apparently we are not supposed to take this one on the beach etc. I have thoroughly loooked after this push chair as they retail for about $300.00. I feel that our consumer rights are not being met. I feel that the rust is a manufacturer's fault and that it is serious as rust can be slowed down but not stopped and therefore Over time will cause the frame of the push chair to weaken. I also feel that we did not get what we asked for as the product did not match it's so called specifications.

Also at a cost of $300.00 I expected the push chair to last longer than 6 months at the very very least! I have a push chair that was made in 2002 and no piece of that has rusted or broken after all these years and it was soo much cheaper than the one I am having problems with!

What can I do? Do I have the right to ask for the money back?Any help you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

I would be rather annoyed too. If you were told you could use it on the beach, then yes you do have rights. If you bought it under the pretense you could take it on the beach, then you should be able to and more than once!

I suggest you give consumer affairs a call.

It should be covered under the consumers guarantee act so if you still have the receipt then they should come to party...

Thanks guys. I feel so frustrated as I got the new push chair specifically to go off road and I expected it to last through all my children and I'm not quite done havin children yet. I got told about the rust that getting it covered by the warranty was like taking a car back with rust in it to be covered under the warranty. If I had only had a car for 6 months and within that time it went rusty I would be taking it back! The old push chair I have works fine although it doesn't have big pneumatic tyres or three wheels as it is def not an all terrain one like the new one was supposed to be otherwise I would have stuck with that .
