I'm pretty new to this bottle feeding business so help please..!!

Soph is 5 1/2 months and according to the tin she should have 4-5 feeds a day of 200mls dropping to 3-4 in a couple of weeks

However she has 6 feeds a day now of around 120-140 mls tops and I can't see her dropping 2 feeds in 2 weeks.

So is this normal?!! Even with her 6 botles shes still isn't reaching the 800mls minimum for her age on the tin. God it sucks when you can see how much they can drink!!

Thanks ladies, probably just need to chill out!

I just go with E's appetite...he still has 5-6 bottles a day and averages 7-800 mls..but I cant force him to drink extra so I don't worry about it..and I have never read the tin...:) that's just averages:) assuming she has enough wet nappies and is healthy I wouldn't worry..

I second what KA said. Once they're happy and filling nappies all is good

I'd just aim to drop maybe one feed and increase the rest. Daniel always seemed to be a bit behind in the amount of bottles that he was "supposed" to have

Yep just go with her appetite and don't worry too much about what it says on the tin, its only a guide for the average baby, whatever that is

Gabs only has four feeds a day and has for over a month and on my tin it says she should drink 250mls and she never ever drinks that much.

As long as your bubba is still weeing and poohing and growing then I wouldn't worry about it, you can't really overfeed babies with formula feeding as they just won't take it and you know about it if they aren't getting enough.

Oh brilliant thanks for asking that emmaohara!! I have been wondering the same thing as Harry is really varied in what he drinks amount wise in a day. I was looking at the side of the tin too thinking hmmm!! Looks like we are all good with what we are doing!

Can you stretch her feeds out? She would drop a feed and increase the quantity of the others if you could stretch her out more. I did that with Jack (went from 3 to 4-hourly) and he went from 160ml to 200ml. He was having 4-5 bottles of that at 6 months, then went to four of 240ml, then down to 3-4 of 200ml and now is at 3 of 200ml and a snack of 120ml if he needs it.

But yep just go with the flow. Babies drop milk a bit when they're established on solids also so remember that.

I would'nt worry, at the end of the day she will not drink anymore than she wants!! Plunket once told me DD1 should of been having more feeds, yea ok so how are you surposed to force feed a baby?? you cant.

Sophie has gone down to 4 bottles now (after we dropped the 10pm feed at 41/2 months) , giving a total of 800ml. It took quite a while to get her up to the 200ml size. Don't worry too much - as the others have said, all babies are different and the guide on the tin is just that, a guide. As Emz suggested, maybe try stretching the feeds out a wee bit each day, The other thing is to have the bigger amount in the bottle some times and see how she goes. We give Sophie 250ml at the 6pm feed as a split feed - half at 6 whilst down stairs watching the news headlines and half once she is in her PJs up in her room at 6.30. This is a hang-over from when she was tiny and was too sleepy to do a decent feed in one go. Her big sister never had a 250ml bottle and she was a real guts!!

Don't worry - in a couple of weeks you will be worrying about solids!! I had forgotten how painful the first couple of months of that can be

Caden has about 6 bottles a day(I think) and he has around 150-200mls each time.

Just go with her appetite(sp?) I let Caden drink what he wants and if he still seems hungry after his bottle I will offer him around 50mls more, sometimes he only needs a few sips more.

It sucks that there isnt much info on bottle feeding,
